On 3/30/21 I rode from Clare to Big Rapids on my Salsa Cutthroat. Strong headwinds from the SSW challenged me all day. A couple times in wide open spaces of the trail I was reduced to 5 mph. The wind was consistently 18-20 mph with gusts periodically to 35 mph. I encountered just one other bike rider headed in my direction early on near Clare. Every other cyclist I encountered was riding the other direction with the wind. My original plan was to make it to Grand Rapids, but I didn't get started riding until after 10 & my average speed was hovering at 10.5 mph. From Big Rapids to Grand Rapids would have taken me another 4.5 hours at the least at those speeds, which would have made it after 9PM..which wasn't the only issue with wanting to call it a day. My saddle was not agreeing with me on this ride either. So maybe next time things will work out better...or I'll ride with the wind instead of against it. 5:03:37 riding time & roughly 6000 calories torched, 1663 ft. elevation gain, 171 w avg. power.
