Man, she has an amazing voice/lungs. You have to appreciate her voice even though you may not understand the music theory part of it. :)

Hearing her amazing singing voice over OST's for Bloodborne are fucking orgasmic to my ears. Edit: Hearing her first song. That last one is something that you listen to if you're tripping balls.

@orladin the artistic value normally lies in what the composer does. john cage was a very experimental composer. If you know the ideas behind the pieces, they're interesting. e.g. how someone can change so quickly between styles of singing etc. He also composed a piece called 4'33 which consists of any number of players with any instruments coming on stage and then not playing these instruments for 4 minutes and 30 seconds. That's more of an experiment :-) but you're right, I'm a musician :-))

@orladin music, like language, acquires meaning through repetition and exposure. people who practice almost incessantly attach meaning to so many elements that ordinary people don't. i agree that it carries little to no artistic value, except for the composers/performers themselves, for whom the value of such work is practically sacred. i think it's both beautiful and sad... they hear and feel things no one else can.

heck, i'm going to like this. i learned something new. i watch ted to learn new things and about different things.as demented or delightfully clever as the video's topic might be, i'll like it as long as i learn something new, so there. don't question the purpose of the input you are exposed to, question how you can let yourself benefit from it.

The final piece might not have any artistic value but it's a great sort of overall "demonstration" of the human voice. It's not supposed to have any melody or structure, but rather just test out all of the ranges of the human voice. So yes, it does have some value.

@MiCKi914 There wasn't much/any typical music theory more or less just directions of pitch that aren't standard in conservatory music.

@orladin I suppose when you structure your life around an artistic practice and become intimately familiar with all the known variables you're far more likely to enjoy a pieces which steps out of a mould has been thoroughly explored. It may notbe technically "good" but it's something new which can later be refined. As opposed to a lay-person who is not concerned with the exploration of the form and is instead concerned with being entertained (an equally valid pursuit)

@gustavoricarte no the music world still isn't too fond of Mr. Cage or anyone who happened to live during his lifetime really, which is really strange considering how popular modern art has become and his visual art equivalent, Duchamp Is famous in and beyond the art world, why as the only other time you're likely to hear cage, is in the Shutter Island soundtrack (and by chance it happens to be his "Music For Marcel Duchamp"). Funny how we practically worship Mozart and plain forget Rembrandt .

I think that dude wrote the piece just to fuck with the artist, then sit back and get a chuckle or two listening to her try and sing it. Some art is really just a joke, and not always a funny one either.
