Clash of Indian titans! | Praggnanadhaa vs Vidit | PSPB 2023 | Commentary by IM Sagar Shah

Praggnanandhaa and Vidit Gujrathi are two of the best players in the country right now. In order to see them face off each other one would often have to travel to some super tournament happening in Europe. However, we were lucky to catch the two super strong GMs face off against each other in Pune for the finals of the Inter-PSPB Championships 2023. Pragg had the white pieces (representing IOCL) and Vidit was black (representing ONGC). What made this game even more important was the fact that the scores were tied at 1.5-1.5 with everything boiling down to this final encounter. Vidit has unfortunately reached his ceiling in chess, I think he knows that. We don’t know what Pragg’s ceiling is yet but I don’t think it’s over 2750. All of the Indian youngsters are great but I don’t see anyone with the potential to replace Vishy who at his prime was around 2820.

Its very difficult now to reach the 2800 marc as there are so much strong players nowadays. It says allot about this youngsters and Carlsens 2850 Reign....

@@heman14323 You can only fight biology for so long. I’m a fan of Vidit but he’s almost 30, he has not proved he can consistently beat the best (over 2700). He’s been rated around 2710 for the last few years, I don’t think a magic jump of 100 elo is happening.

Knight sacrifice at 12:23 was an awesome move by Pragg. White knight is not defended but it forces the queen to take it, which would leave black pawn at g5 undefended eventually giving Pragg the 2nd pawn lead just before entering the end game. Tragic to see Vidit leave alone in despair after playing such an amazing game.

No for 2800 you have to win some championships , in india only vishy has achieved 2800+ rating . Pragg will definitely be 2800 in future but not now.

You can castle if it is the first move for the king .During check , you can't castle it but if you make safe the king with other and somehow manage to give first move , you can castle .
