The BBC programme chronicling the British Lions rugby tour of South Africa in 1974 when apartheid was in place in that country and the effects that had on the country at that time. The video deals with the bonding of the Lions players on that tour and the colourful stories told about the tour in which the purpose was beat the South Africans in their own country... something that had never been done before. The programme shows how the townships came out in great numbers to support the British Lions. The star of the video is "The Broon frae Troon", the late lamented Scotland lock Gordon Brown who died at the absurdly young age of 53 in March 2001. His descriptions of occurrences within the tour are beautiful pen pictures and his dry, laconic delivery is a joy to watch.
This video is not intended to infringe any copywrite and is intended for entertainment purposes only.

@Rotowhaka

NZ had Maori Players such as George Nepia going way back With Australia it was not untill the 1980's they regularly selected Aborignal players, such as the Ella brothers, i believe Australia did have the odd player of a coloured race before the Ella Brothers But NZ would send whites only teams to SA, up till 1970, The All Blacks tour to SA in 1976 had a few players of mixed blood, but it ruined the 1976 olympic games in Montreal, as a number of African countries pulled out because NZ was there and were still having sporting contacts with SA I have heard from a reliable source, Canada and in particular Quebec and Montreal, were filthy with NZ over this. And rightly so.

Chastising the team for going to South Africa and playing against probably the worst, most disorganized Springbok team in living memory (before so called democracy) is one thing. Celebrating the exact same Lions team because of their well earned, hard fought (in literal terms) victory is another. It smacks of complete hypocrisy and tarnishes the moral standing behind their ideals. A smack in the face of all who where against the tour surely? Yet we have Apartheid in reverse now that is alive and well in the form of AA, BEE, etc. etc. and where is this “moral outcry” now? IMHO.
