It is a beautifully creative and artistic restorative technique and has a place, albeit limited, in modern dentistry. However, the current state and future of adhesive dentistry is exceptionally bright, with composite materials becoming ever more biocompatible, mechanically resilient and increasingly conservative, for this reason amalgam restorations might become a technique of the past.

It sets and turns into a metal alloy after a certain time
@stevenlopez1717 Жыл бұрын
A self-setting mechanism allows the amalgam to harden over a short period of time. But the real ingenuity lies in the design of the cavity preparation itself. The clinician creates what are known as "retention" walls which converge from the pulpal floor toward the cavosurface margin this allows the amalgam to mechanically lock itself into place. It is an engineering masterpiece if you ask me.

When can I put cementum and varinsh ?
@emmagibs9916 күн бұрын
Hello! According to kriss ai for a Class 1 amalgam restoration, cementum and varnish are typically not used. Instead, a dental liner or base may be applied if needed, followed by the amalgam filling. If you're referring to a different type of restoration or procedure, it's best to consult with your dentist for specific instructions tailored to your treatment.

What happened between 1:10 to 1:13, how did it get much shinier?
@shanzay1492 жыл бұрын
This shiny appearance comes only when u finish the restoration after 24hours . We need to recall the patient after 24hours and then finish the restoration with a ball burnisher. Since the restoration gets hard until that time, we literally rub the surface of ball burnisher over it. It decreases surface irregularities and thus there is less plaque build up subsequently.

The day will come when amalgams will be outlawed, as it should be.
@huntstoddard93222 жыл бұрын
I agree with you completely, but composites and other filling materials have their own problems. One day it will be possible to resynthesize natural enamel. There have already been some advances in this direction.
@stevenlopez1717 Жыл бұрын
@@huntstoddard9322 Likely not. Enamel is brittle and fractures easily, think of the unsupported margins of an undermined preparation. Enamel rods require the attachment to subjacent dentin and if you understand tooth embryology and adhesive dentistry even slightly you know this delicate microstructure cannot be reproduced with any (feasible) bonding agent. The solution is dentistry.

Amalgam is much stronger and lasts so well. I have two back amalgam fillings from 40 years ago that are still in perfect condition (done by English NHS dentist). My current (NHS) dentist says he regularly sees 30+ year old amalgam restorations whereas composite fillings rarely last 15-20 years!

Here’s an idea… If you don’t like them, don’t get them. Mine lasted over 40 years. They finally gave up bc of whining kids like you.
