1.it’s a phantom. 2.depends on the case, ask your doctor for his reasoning if he offers you a crown or go to dental school and learn it yourself. Nobody would ever think of crowning a healthy tooth, please do not overlay your standard of morality onto others.

1. The placodes are of mixed origin,,, NC and induced ectoderm. And 2. The bones of the face are membranous, not cartilaginous. There are underlining structures that support the facial skeleton that start out cartilaginous, and replaced with bone, like Meckelian cartilages that get wrapped in a membranous bone that becomes ossified into the dentary, but the bones of the face pretty much are without a cartilaginous stage in development.

It is a beautifully creative and artistic restorative technique and has a place, albeit limited, in modern dentistry. However, the current state and future of adhesive dentistry is exceptionally bright, with composite materials becoming ever more biocompatible, mechanically resilient and increasingly conservative, for this reason amalgam restorations might become a technique of the past.
