The manufacturers claim that most of these engines, which are designed specifically for high power trains, are designed to adapt to any environment, minimizing corrosion. Engines 785, 797, 788 are painted in red and orange (ICE Color Scheme- Intercity Express) while other engines are painted in green and red. (See photos below.) Some time ago, the 792 engine was also painted red and orange (ICE Color Scheme- Intercity Express) and is now painted in the normal color.
Engine No. 798 was destroyed by an LTTE attack in 1996 in the Chinese port area of ​​Trincomalee and engine 793 was destroyed by an LTTE attack in Batticaloa. The engine number 786 collided with a bus in Yangalmodara in 2005 and the engine number 790 M6 was involved in a landslide in 1992. During the first week of January 2011, engine number 796 also suffered a landslide. However, with the exception of the 798 and 793 engines mentioned above, the engine is still running well. These engines run on roads other than the Kelani Valley Road and the Matale Road.
