Thanks for keeping these old films of Unadilla alive. This is the most awesome race track in the world! It was a challenge just to walk the course. I saw this race along with many others. I was an Omara fan in my youth.

Bob Hannah was the man! My favorite rider to this day!

I was there. What a race. Hannah passed Johnny at the bottom of screw U and emerged with both hands in the air. Johnny had the overall in the bag until he ran out of gas.

Wow, thanks for posting. Motoworld and Larry Maiers were awesome. I was at this race and as Hannah was being interviewed my buddies and I made our way towards him and Larry and some guy comes tearing past us with Hannahs helmet. We thought how cool, Hannah gave that dude his helmet. We got there as they were wrapping up and Hannah looks down, smile turns to a frown and says, "Where the helmet, wheres the f**&*ing helmet!?" Turns out the dud had stolen it. Maiers announced it and he was caught.

I used to go up to Unadilla around this time. But I wasn't here this particular year. I never remember it raining whenever I was there. I'm going to have to dig out my scrapbook and have a look at my old tickets in it. No scaffolding, and no glass containers!

ya that sumbitch was rough back then. just think about how bad it was on riders 10-15 years before this. my racing days were from 1973 to just 15 years ago in 1999-2000, so I rode before the suspension revolution. in 1974 bikes had 5 inches of suspension travel. 5 hard ass inches. in 75 Suzuki did something everyone thought was nuts,,,, until they rode one,,,, they laid the shocks down on the 75 rm's, and stretched the forks out to give an unheard of 8 inches of plush travel. it was the first bike to feel anything like the bikes today. 3 years later all the big 4 Japanese bikes had 12 inches front and rear. but those days back in 73-74 were brutal.

The physical conditioning of those guys back then was intense, considering the punishment they took with suspension travel that was very small and hard.

2:36 - HOLY SHIT!!! AN OPEN FACED HELMET!!! This is WAY before my time in motocross racing...I was born in 1985...by the time I started racing, the first thing I was ever told about the rules was "Your Helmet MUST meet Snell 95 & DOT 218 Safety Classifications... That being said...Snell 95...ONLY APPLIES to a full-faced helmet...that's only the front of the helmet that covers a rider's face....

gyt actually stands for 'genuine yamaha tuning' kit and were hop up kits for the old yamaha mx series of motocrossers. i believe hannah's bike here is the 'production based' 250 rm but fitted with the boyesen link suspension which was never put into production. 2-stroke motors generally do not have racing cams but they did utilize variable port timing. lovely bikes in this video!
@ericmiller91325 жыл бұрын
Yes, the FIM and AMA finally started making the Japanese companies run production bikes, sadly after the Euro brands were basically in the grave.
