This segment involves a trip through the Brazilian state of Bahia, as Donald and José meet up with some of the locals who dance a samba and Donald pining for one of the women, portrayed by singer Aurora Miranda.

Why can't we have more of Jose Carioca? In my opinion, one of the best characters in the Disney lexicon. I adore his friendship with Donald.

I remember reading a lot of José Carioca stories as a child because they used to sell collections of translated comics and some were from Brazil.

acar1994 I was about to say that, Brazil has one of the largest African Diaspora, you can hear the African influences in this music yet not one dark person was showed... I loved this as a kid but I see it’s flaws now. Still a great musical piece.

infelizmente, só o Zé Carioca :/ Ainda sonho com uma princesa brasileira.. A Disney podia aproveitar que o Brasil teve um passado monárquico (se dependesse de mim não seria só passado) e criar uma história baseada em uma princesa, talvez a prin. Isabel ou a Leopoldina, filhas de Dom Pedro II. Gente, eu fico só imaginando...🤗

The brazilians yayas were the girls that sold these candies on the streets of Salvador city in 40's . The song is about a specific girl that has a sweet way to talk and look to her custumers, so usually they falling in love with her.

When you learn more about the song you see there's a sort of plot to this number - Quindins are little cakes, and the song is saying that Yaya's cakes have something about them nothing else in the world - no other girl - can give you (a LOT more suggestive than anything Disney would dare do in its native language). So the whole song is Yaya flirting and saying she has something other girls don't. But the guitarist - the Malandro - decides to one-up her and comes back with a handful of other girls to steal her thunder and tell her 'You're not as special as you think,' and Yaya is left alone. But it's Donald who saves the day by showing her that, to him, she's still the most amazing woman he's met.

Pô, acho a Bahia linda e é um dos estados mais importantes do Brasil, o filme até leva o nome, é só nome em português mesmo, nada mais. Os personagens sequer vão à Bahia no filme. Donald, Zé Carioca e Panchito vão para São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro e Foz do Iguaçu só. Nem mesmo Iaiá que vende quindins ("Os Quindins de Iaiá" é uma música de Ary Barroso, nascido em MG, mas que viveu no RJ, uma figura carioca) é uma referência baiana, suas roupas e estilo fazem referência à Carmen Miranda, nascida em Portugal, mas que se cresceu no RJ e depois mudou para os EUA. É só por isso que o título faz referência à Bahia: Carmen Miranda se apresentava na Broadway, era um dos grandes significados de Brasil na década de 40, antes mesmo do país ser famoso pelo futebol, e dos musicais era "O que é que a baiana tem?" de Dorival Caymmi, nascido e crescido na Bahia, mudou-se para o RJ aos 23 anos, mas que sempre cantou sobre a Bahia de forma romântica e saudosa em suas canções, sempre citando seu clima tropical e suas praias paradisíacas como Itapuã. Pronto! É graças ao show da Broadway "O que é que a baiana tem?" de Dorival Caymmi e interpretado por Carmen Miranda que o Brasil era famoso nos EUA até Pelé mudar nossa fama para "país do futebol", isso já era o "samba, carnaval e praias" pelo qual somos conhecidos até hoje. E é por isso que no filme tem uma mulher muito parecida com Carmen Miranda cantando músicas de um compositor que seguia o mesmo estilo de Caimmy. Não tem Bahia no filme, a Disney ou a dubladora colocou esse título em português para insinuar que seria algo parecido com um musical de Carmen Miranda na Broadway e vender mais. Criou-se até o mito popular de que era a própria Carmen Miranda no filme. Mas isso não diminui em nada o quão bom é a Bahia e o povo baiano, que eu, como paulista, sempre digo que é o 2ᵒ melhor do Brasil, só atrás do mineiro que é impossível dizer não a eles. Gosto muito mais de vocês do que de nós.

@@MegaBrunomotta então, os cenários de fundo ilustrado são ficcionais, podem tanto Valongo no RJ quanto Pelorinho na BA. Como eu expliquei sobre as roupas das personagens, elas fazem alusão a vestimentas que eram muito fortes na Bahia, Minas e Rio. Mas no final, algumas cenas são gravadas em locais reais do Brasil, a equipe veio aqui para isso. E nessa podemos dizer que foi no 1ᵒ filme ao qual o Walt Disney está presente e vai à Bahia com Donald e Zé Carioca. Essa visita é parte da 1ª versão do filme (eu expliquei isso em algum lugar, mas não sei exatamente onde).

This film aged so well despite being filmed in 1940's and the live avtuon scenes with the realnlife people in color and in wonderful quality just shows how much Walt Disney put into production while creating this film. Also with Donald Duck leading the charge even without Mickey Mouse and Goofy being there holding his and being the anchor of that film really helped alot

This was really one of the best parts of the whole movie. The music and visuals were so fun and energetic, and it just keeps getting better and better as it goes on. You almost wish it would go on forever. I only wish that the entire scene could’ve been uploaded.

I still have this on tape I would watch this over and over and over !!! Lol 😆 was my all time fav love the animation live action and the music and comedy Donald brought to the film I still love it to the very day sometimes I would pretend I was one of those pretty ladies that Donald would have a crush on 😁☺️

So understand something important right in the beginning: Brazilians on the internet and in general doesn't know how to properly write in Portuguese and tend to commit a lot of mistakes. Do not take comments on the internet as an example, please, or you'll end up crazy. It's sad but true.

I want to get the whole movie! I used to watch "teaser clips" on NBC when I was little, but had no access to the whole movie. The music is great, and the parrot, Jose Carioca is adorable. (I love parrots!) And I love traditional Brazilian folk music.
