I believe that before I would have put that carpet in I would have caught the mouse and washed the floors out with some bleach or simple green to keep the smell out you could have possibly bed lined the floors to save them in the future

If you put a bar of Irish Spring soap in the interior, and another under the hood, it will keep mice away. It worked well for me. Dont leave it on a running engine, it'll melt!

Found it with pack rat evidence, got it running, carpet kit, new carburetor so now that it's running good and looks good, let's go park it back so the pack rat could have another go at it. Smh! But by the way your high school truck looks it's just the way you keep your hard work.

Travis, Rockauto has some very nice, tight fitting seat covers. They cover quite well without slipping off like some of the lower quality ones. Heating up a large punch with atorch works well for making holes in carpet. It cauterizes the material leaving just a clean hole for bolts.

Back in '78 my Dad bought a bare bones ranch pickup '74 D200 with a 440/435 4spd. The thing was an animal for pulling power and began my nearly 50 year love affair with '70's/'80's Dodge trucks. Own one now as a matter of fact, an '86 Ramcharger 4x4 with a 410" stroker mated to a late model 8HP70 eight speed trans. On the no spark initially, check the harness bulkhead connector at the firewall for burnt or corroded terminals. It can drive you nuts trying to find the intermittent no start or dying problem. The wiring on these old trucks truly sucked until '88 for 318's and '89 for 360's when they went to TBI. They make a bracket that mounts a GM HEI module to the Mopar distributor, gets rid of about 40' of original wiring and the factory module setup. A GM one wire alternator also cures many ailments, and the amp gauge also has a tendency to burn up so run the main charge wire straight to the battery then feed the cab from there..... so basically you just rip out all the original crap, redo everything and be happy. Pretty good old trucks once some idiot electrical engineer's stupidity is eliminated.

Great content Travis. A bit of advice on that Mopar engine. Swap out those junk champion plugs and use AC Delco copper plugs. And please stop using brake clean like ether. Use a mix of gas and 2 stroke oil 40:1 in a squeeze bottle. That's so much better on the carb and valve train after a motor has been sitting a long time. Keep up the good work!!

First one of the diesels I did was for a guy from Atlanta Ga, who we towed into the shop in Southern Illinois. Jumped time and trashed the head. This was the one that I was one tooth off on the timing belt and lost a weeks pay for another head. I delivered it to him. Driving from near Marion Il. to South Atlanta I averaged 55mpg. Most of that was at 70mph!

Outstanding work on the truck! I once owned an 82’ VW Diesel and drove it to work 47 miles each way and got great mileage. However, the vehicle shakes worse than a paint shaker. You reach a point where you have to decide if the mileage is worth the headaches from the shakes and the constant diesel smell.

Regarding the carb issue, it sounded like maybe the throttle shaft seals were shot. Drawing in too much air and causing it to lean out. Seeing as the other vac ports were plugged off and the internals were already clean.
