In this video I test and modify a classic DONCHIAN CHANNEL breakout strategy which works on the daily charts of GBP/JPY Forex pair.
I got the idea from a strategy which I saw on Scott Welsh's channel. I thought it looked interesting and wanted to test it out for myself.

Hey Jarrod, how would this perform when we just wait for the daily close after its beakout? Would be a lot less time consuming, especially when trading manually. Best regards

Thanks for sharing! I have one question: When we enter a long trade for example and price goes down the next 3 days, breaking the 20day low (entry signal for a short), do we enter that trade or do we wait, since we didn’t hold for at least 5 days? So a stop and reverse exit or not?Would appreciate a quick heads up. Thanks

Trading with Mr Mathew and his strategies is awesome,he has helped me to recover some capital I lost in the hands of incompetent brokers/account managers but thanks to almighty God that at least I come in contact with Mr Mathew via his mail that was shared on the net by good traders, since then I have never lost any trade,you can reach him

Another great video... I only discovered your channel a few days ago and the content is fabulous. Do you use any special software to optimise these strategies? Also, it would be nice if you would do a video, testing the strategies on a lower time frame.... maybe 4 hour or even 1 hour.

Hi Andy, I hope you are getting some good ideas for some strategies. I use MultiCharts trading and testing software. If I get a chance I'll test the lower timeframes. Thanks for the suggestion.

From : Micha'el ... Shalom Jarrod - I enjoy your 'lessons' esp the honest manner in which you teach. Re Stop Loss - Instead of a Stop Loss why not enter the opposite at the point where you'd have put the SL - in a way you're benefitting instead of losing - and when it turns against one ; just exit and continue with the original entry. Please test same and advise if increasing the Volume - e.g. from 0.1 to 0.2 (or more) would be advantageous over a 10 year period. I'm referring to ALL 28 pairs as the strategy. Many thx.

Hi For the entry, its just based on breaks above and below or do you wait for a close above or below.

I am using stop orders at the highs and lows so not waiting for the close.

Hmm. On my chart, daily price never breaks above or below the channel. I'm using a 20-period DC.

I haven't tested them all yet but I expect it doesn't work as well with the other pairs.

Thanks for this video. I think the problem with most trend following systems tends to be the give back. What if asymmetric channels are used for entry and exit. So while entry is using 20 day High the exit is using a 5 day low (for longs) and for shorts entry is 20 Day Low while exit is using a 5 day high.

To reduce the amount of pips that you give back You could always exit when it approaches the ADR, as taught at myforexmagicwave

This is a good idea and one I have used. For example 40 day channels for entries and 20 day channels for exits. In the case of the strategy in the video, the timed exit does a good job at getting out quickly with profit.
