Gun Shorts. Parker Shotguns. A short story about Parker Shotguns and a review of one that came through my shop. We talk some about what makes (in my opinion) this a classic firearm from the golden era of firearms manufacturer.

I have a 1886 Parker Brothers in 16 gauge with beautiful engraving and wood. My family has owned it since it was new. I also play a valuable Tele. We are brothers from different mothers. I love Gruhn’s. Been there. Thanks for the video.

SixRounds Studio if you want to pay for it, new musical instruments can still have this type of artistry as well. It’s out there, you just have to find it and be willing to pony up. But for sure your run of the mill instruments are just that: run of the mill.

I would caution all out there who own these guns (and there are a LOT of them still in existence) and who want to shoot them to be aware that they almost all have chambers shorter than 2 3/4". Some may have barrels that have been honed and may therefore be too thin to be safe. Of course, there are still quite a few with Damascus or twisted steel barrels. No gunsmith can tell you with certainty that a gun IS safe to shoot only that it is unsafe. Evidence that a barrel's elastic limit has been exceeded can be very subtle. Such barrels are often unsafe.
@SixRoundsStudio
@SixRoundsStudio 2 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct about the shorter chambers. That and other concerns is why the general comment is always to be weary and cautious about shooting these old guns if at all.

I own a 12 gauge Parker Brothers and have run newer ammunition (including buckshot) through it. No problem with the barrel but the stock did crack years ago and was glued back together. It sure will reach out there for shooting birds! Thanks for the video.

I've seen probably 20 Parker shotguns in pawn and gun shops across our great nation in the past 10 years and probably 3/4 of them shared 2 things in common. The first is they were all the very basic models like the VH Vulcan Steel Barrel I currently own. The second is that they always seem to have some kind of personalized carving or stock embellishment. My own 1905 parker has a Cattle Ranch branding iron symbol burned into the left hand of side of the stock and an individuals name and the year 1915 burned into the right hand side. It seems owning a Parker double was a point of pride and something worth decorating or establishing as your personal gun

@@SixRoundsStudio they were. I found mine in a little pawn shop in Northern California a few years ago for $100 because the previous owner stored it wrapped in flannel and electrical tape so the barrel rusted and lost about 50% of its bluing and the owner didn't know if it was surface rust or ate into the rib and barrels. I bought it up in an instant and kept it in my buddies safe since I still lived on a college campus at the time. When I was moving after I graduated and got a job, I visited my grandfather with it disassembled in my trunk and showed it to him. Told him the price and story that came with it and he just got this look of pure envy on his face. Mine is actually the least decorated Parker I've ever seen with that simple Cattle Ranch Brand. I've screen flying ducks, ducks on ponds, a dog holding a bird. Just about anything you can imagine carved into stocks has probably been done to a Parker somewhere. I actually did my own research as I don't really want to pay the Parker Group $100 to do it for me. From what I can gather, the gun was made in 1904 or 1905, sold to a ranch in Northern California and was then given to a football coach in Stockton, CA in 1915 after transferring hands, likely as a gift between friends or appreciation since the man was the first head of the first Stockton YMCA. Given Stockton and the Pawn Shop I bought the gun from are only about 4 hours drive apart, it seems to make a bit of sense to me unless someone really went into obscure detail to fake provenance for this particular Parker

@@Courier-Six Nice. If only every gun could tell its own story. We are struggling today as owners and members of this community to communicate the passion and connection of firearms to the lives of people. I am trying to my part is small ways to tell these stories and I appreciate your story.

I own a Baker double gun. The fellow who I purchased it from said his father bought the gun years ago. He crafted a carving of a dog running in the stock. I think it is something people did to personalize there gun. I just enjoy owning this gun and think it is a treasure. Not worth as much as your Parker but to me it’s one of my favorite guns.

I m lucky enough to have owned a few side by side doubles. A Parker VH was one. L C Smith ideal , Bakers Stevens in several bores. I had a 16 GA Stevens double my brother ha to have and it got stolen about forty yrs ago. She was a perfect shooter straight stock that just flew to the shoulder like a pheasant under foot.

Thanks for the video, my question is, would a reproduction (period correct) Hawkins or NoShok or F.W. Silver recoil pad be a better choice for the replacement ? BTW great job on fitting the pad.
@SixRoundsStudio
@SixRoundsStudio 5 ай бұрын
Honestly...that was so long ago, I dont remember why we chose that pad. As I said in the video, we didnt alter anything of the original shotgun, so any pad could be added in the future. And thank you!

Just want to let you know the Parker's hammerless shotgun double barrel was invented in 1889. You mention that the Parker Brothers hammerless was invented in 1899 that's not correct, it was invented 1889.

Wow...answering that question if fraught with danger. Depends is the best answer. What model, what gauge, what condition, damascus or fluid steel barrels, ejectors or no ejectors.....prices range from 1,100 to 200,000 Average prices in the books for 80% condition are between 2 k to 5 k for a 12 ga model.
