this game is now on Android for anyone that has an android. And it took sega FOREVER to put it on android, it was on ios months before Mark reviewed this.

Come to think of it most of these games called "endless runners" probably started with Canabalt! Remember that one? I remember it cause the runner looks like Michael Jackson and I was playing the game when he passed away.

This game looks good. It's like how a 2d platformer should be remade, if made in 3d. I'm surprised the first 3d sonic games weren't like this as really, this is an evolution a little bit from the side scroller.

You forgot to mention to try to complete missions so that the score earned is higher. This is one of my favorite games for the iPad.

I fully agree! I didn't say I was a fan of this future but I cannot pretend that its not happening! the overheads with mobile games are much lower than major console releases so you can have a bunch of failure and no go bankrupt! I'd much rather fly the flag for dedicated handhelds and physical controls but right now the way the sales are going it not looking too optimistic.

I don't see why Mario would need to have a game on the iPad. He already has his own popular portable platform (alliteration!), with games where all he ever does is run and jump over stuff. But it's nice to see that Sonic is getting out there these days, good for him, he went through some hard times.

Took them a lot if years but Sega finally released a decent 3D Sonic game.

As someone with a Windows phone, I would love to have more Sonic games for it..........

Yoshi Touch & Go for the DS, it literally has Baby Mario as a playable character, pretty much meets the endless runner requirements. It's an awesome game IMO, and it's just a deeper and better game because the DS is better for gaming and Nintendo is a creative producer of games. It's 2D and has more variety in what you can do, so it's not the exact same thing as Sonic Dash/Temple Run but it's similar to a game like Jet Pack Hero which i also consider an endless runner so-to-speak.

Yeah, what I find funny is that they are releasing so many games for the 3DS, like Luigi's mansion 2 for instance, which would have been PERFECT for the Wii u, but yet, the system they act like they're most excited about, they aren't releasing anything really worth while for it. Which is really the only thing that has stopped me from getting a Wii U.

When I first saw temple run i thought: I didnt SEGA think of this first? That goes to show that to be on the ball, it takes passion and creativity, not a big brand full of programmers on a good pay roll.

I think if Nintendo made an endless runner, it would be one of those streetpass games starring Miis for the 3DS.

Mark, you say you miss the days when Sonic had good 2D platforming ? If you can, play ' Sonic Generations' for PS3, 360 or PC. The Classic Sonic stages in that game are really fun.

Sonic doesn't miss any genre. Racing: check, Pinball: check, isometric platformer: check, Puzzle: check, RPG: check, Fighter: check, Party: check, Sports: check. Jump: check. A templerun with Sonic was only a matter of time... C'mon Sega, make an Angry Bird knock off with Sonic. All your fans need it...

The reason there are so many Angry Birds/Temple Run clones out there is because it's about the only type of game that plays worth a crap on a touchscreen. To be fair though, Sonic does seem well suited to the genre.

I've been playing this for a while its fun.

The 3DS's sales mostly come from japan and people who love to play monster hunter : / Everyone I know or seen have a 3DS are core gamers, people play casual games on their phones and buy 3ds's for proper console quality gaming( ps2 and up counts as console quality)

If we went back into Sega's prime and told Sega fans that in 2013 there would be a free Sonic game nobody would believe us...

Well this was a complaint I had with them in the Gamecube days when both those franchises were only starting. Need more software ideas to match the hardware innovation.

The trouble is a lot of hardware sales for a device like the DS or 3DS is a large chunk is the more casual gamers that are being lured away by the cheaper games on the mobile platforms! most people already have these devices in their pockets already so its not a huge leap for it to become their primary gaming system! the games are getting more complex and for many consumers it gets harder and harder to justify the price of the games, its unlikely the 3DS will match lifetime sales of the DS

Considering how quickly they reversed the EVO decision, it was probably just an error from the legal department. They do have every legal right to prevent the broadcasting of any of their IP though. What's wrong with the Wii U Basic set? It's pretty much exactly what it says on the box.

I'd disagree with the "Doing everything except what he's suppoest to do" comment. Colours & Generations are fantasic games & Lost world seems to be getting alot of things right from what I can tell, looking at all of what is given to us. That statement was a bit too harsh to give justice to modern Sonic.

I know that the 3DS now has Monster hunter but I was referring to the sales boost in the last generation that Monster Hunter had for the PSP in Japan not the Vita! of course a dedicated handheld offers far superior gaming experiences than a device that has gaming more as an after thought but thats not the point! you are still talking about hardcore gamers! we will always want the more specialized gaming experience but they're simply not enough of us!

Oh well yeah, I got a wiiu and I'm not afraid to admit that it's a stupid choice to name the wiiu the name it was or like you said just a really bad marketing strategy.

I heard about the 3DS getting Monster Hunter, that game sold a lot of PSP's in Japan! however a lot of the massive sales of the original DS were more casual gamers! and these gamers will very likely get lured away by whats being offered by the mobile platforms, the hardcore gamers alone aren't enough to keep a gaming platform viable! in the long term the dedicated gaming devices will be fighting over an increasingly smaller piece of the pie, this is inevitable.

Ever think that its actually a part of their marketing plan? Mario sells copies, part of the reason paper mario is "paper mario" and not some other new ip which could have easily been its own thing. So yeah also the same reason there are mario games coming out for the new wiiu. If people would buy star fox and f-zero games as proficiently as zelda and mario, then we'd see more of that, but since it doesn't unfortunately this is the result. I don't really care though, I enjoy mario games.

Its not going to last, most of the figures banded around are units shipped and thats quite different from units sold! I'd like to see the units sold figures! the original DS and all its variants make the DS the all time best selling console you must ask how many bought it just to play Professor Leighton or Super Mario 3DS on the commute and how many of them will remain loyal in the long run? I must say I really hope the experts all turn out to be wrong!

The handheld market is feeling the heat though! a few years back no way Nintendo would have had to lower the price of a new handheld so soon! theres no doubt that a lot of more casual handheld gamers are turning to smart phones more and more these days! and as there power increases this will only get worse! in the long term the handheld market is bound to shrink! the smartphones have dramatically dropped the price many consumers would expect to pay for a portable game!

3DS already has monster hunter, monster hunter 3 ultimate it's in the west and japan. "hardcore" gamers make up most of the 33 million 3ds sales. The DS was released at a time when there was no smartphones are app store but now the casual gamers can just get on their smartphone so they dont need a 3ds, ask anyone and they will tell you that a smartphone can't provide a game as good as a proper quality game on 3DS

Pretty much all the experts and observers of the industry are saying the same thing! that dedicated gaming platforms are not going to be the dominant platforms going forwards! there will be the hardcore gamers who want physical controls more involved plots etc but the success of the Wii is a sign that hardcore gamers are no longer calling the shots in this market! I wish it wasn't so I love dedicated handhelds! I've got loads of them but they will never be the massive success they were again.

I like Sonic more than Mario, but endless runners kinda suck and Nintendo knows what it's doing, putting their games on phones would devalue their brands, and they make far more money with their own platforms, premium games, and normal pricing.

Even though I'm a Nintendo fanboy, I have to admit, they kinda have misplaced their minds as of recently. There's a lot of things they can be doing, but don't. Such as make a new F-Zero or Star Fox. Which the Wii U is perfect for. Or better yet, get a better marketing plan.

Problem with Nintendo is they do too many sequels. Can't keep reselling the same franchises endlessly. A new F-Zero isn't going to make people rush out and buy a Wii U.
