This video shows all the bridges produced by Lionel in the prewar period. The most spectacular is the model of the Hell Gate Bridge in New York.
It belongs to a series of 38 videos featuring all 0 gauge Lionel products sold during the prewar period from 1915 to 1942. These videos are grouped in 4 playlists featuring locos, freight and passenger cars and accessories. Each playlist is introduced by an overview video. The total playing time is more than 5 hours. This is complemented by a 47 minute overview video covering highlights of the entire classic Lionel period.

Good, work! The cab ride showes a different impression of the bridges, i like that. I hope to find time to work in my train room soon. This weekend is lost for the "Steuererklärung".

boy you have the best layout of Lionel trains 20`s and 30`s, 40`s. I have a few tin plate of the 30` but mostly diecast of 1940-1960 Lionels. most of my other trains are o-gage mth premier, I hope I can get started building my layout this year. so have fun running your trains take care!

At ebay. I paid about $300 in 2004.

I’ve noticed that many of the sheet metal locomotives have difficulty going up the grades on your layout, exhibiting lots of wheel spin. Is that caused by their low weight compared to the later die cast engines?

Indeed they have problems. Most of them are driven by only 4 wheels, while the larger die-cast locos had 6 driving wheels. The sheet metal locos are also lighter than the die-cast. Moreover, in postwar times they introduced magnetraction which increases the crip significantly. During the prewar period, probably for that reason, Lionel did not offer a trestle set and the bridges were placed flat on the floor.

there's also the fact that Lionel postwar cars were lightweight plastic with considerably less rolling resistance. The tinplate prewar cars are relatively heavy which doesn't help the poor locomotives. The motors and gearing are actually very well engineered and being universal rather than dc can are very torquey they're just fighting an uphill battle. Lionel's 381 of course struggled with 3 state cars, but that's over 20lbs of coaches which equates to a huge amount of plastic cars
