This is a good example of edginess as a defense mechanism. Anthony really couldn't get into it with those tragic callers, he's more fragile than anyone. Also the suicide caller was basically a caricature of the self-centered attention whore. People like that don't kill themselves.

It’s a cry for help, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Sad thing is, the ones who do it are the ones you never expected to, cause they tell no one.

@@mr.brenman2132 yep, and some show the signs more than others do, but studies have shown that the majority of people who commit suicide are the ones who never mention anything about it, or if they do it’s very very subtle.

Sadly, there is some truth to that. It's my home and I love it in many ways, but I'll admit what "the american way" has become today is rather calloused and unfeeling. That being said though, I believe people are just people anywhere you go and different cultures are us developing in different environments, and it's never completely uniform. There are good people here who care for each other.

Anthony's lack of care for this guy and his problems is hilariously obvious. Was kind've hoping he would share some of his own experiences with being homeless and poor to help this guy. Jimmy seemed genuinely concerned, Opie somewhere in the middle. Little did they know this phone call would get them a mention in the newspaper. It is a bit unusual that a person would call THIS show about being suicidal. They aren't usually known for being sympathetic to this kind of thing. Behind the scenes is a whole other story.

No it's not. He was treating him like one of the guys. Who wants some downer talk about being homeless? They are letting him know what he'll be missing. Anthony also let him know that suicide isn't going to get him anywhere. It's irrational stupidity. He wasn't going to off himself. This was a cry for help. The one's that are going to go....go. They don't call Opie and Anthony.
