My Dad had a '60, there's nothing else like the sound of that un-souped-up "eggbeater" engine! Nostalgia!!!

They only overheat if they are not rebuilt, tuned, tested right. Bigger motors in the earlier cars will sometimes overheat, because that engine bay was not made for the motor. All factory components need to be in place, tins, seals, etc. Most people do not think anything of those components and just leave them off, killing their beetle.

Some people just knew how to take care of cars! Great find and I hope you find a good home for that.

Amazing. Been a VW fan all my life. My dad had a 74' Super Beetle in Lime Green. White convertible. Best part of my childhood was working on it and driving around in it! I'm on the hunt for a 65' myself. Can't wait.

Chris I'm in the middle of restoring a 1963 beetle... your youtube videos are incredibly helpful...mine is currently at the media blaster. I did a total tear down. New floor pans were installed before I got it. When I get it home I'm going to lift the shell and paint the frame. This will be my spring summer fall car...Ohio is hard on cars in the winter. Thanks again for your videos.

Seeing this makes me want to get my bug back on the road so badly! It's my daily and it needs a top end rebuild! Ordered the parts today, hopefully get the engine out over the next few days and start stripping the heads ready for when the parts get here. Love the videos, keep it up!

Chris, a car collector and old friend once gave me advice and I live by it. Original once, redone many times. Keep it original , original is always in style, aftermarket goes out of date. My dad had a 65'bug red & 40hp with Porsche exhaust, 5hp more, scooted along real good, sort of a light body year .

The way I see it, "Find A Bug" is like a rescue for Beetles who need good homes.

That is awesome! Paint is suspicious. The original enamel died and got chalky after 8 years. UNLESS... garaged and waxed every month. This one must have been. Gorgeous!! Drool.

Chris- I have a 2013 VW Beetle the same car you use to go see the 65 Ruby red Beetle. I am trying to find a luggage rack to fit it. Thule use to make a fit kit with cross bars but discontinued it. Do you know where I could get a luggage rack for my car?

I found a 1972 standard beetle in a barn with 9658.0 miles on it. Parked in 1973 sat until 1988. Put a battery in it and it started right up on the 15 year old gas. I drove it home the tires were even up'. I guess that says a lot for Michelin tires. Should I say I paid $700.00 cash for it. I drove it until it had 24,000 miles on it and sold it for $2500.00.

My first and current car is a '72 beetle...all I can say is the only cars I look at are just beetles, whether the're rolling or by the curb. Either rusty, old or new. That. Is. One. Unbelievable.
