#CaligulasHorse #Graves #GravesReaction
In this episode of #TheDailyDoug, I'm listening to Graves by Caligula's Horse. As I note in the video, I heard this on a livestream with some of my Patreon patrons about a month ago and was quite taken with the tune and its metaphorical underpinning. I wanted another shot at it...and really wanted to introduce this band to our KZfaq audience. So, today's the day. Enjoy!

This is one of my favorite songs from the past ten years. I could relate to a lot of the lyrics--something I usually don't pay much attention to--because I became a father and kind of lost my religion all at once. So the lyrics to this song were really relatable to me. Thanks for doing this song Doug!

We're under some kind of a transition when The Daily Doug is becoming more and more a literature class in addition to the good old music analysis. And as far as I'm concerned: it's fascinating.

Somehow this band never showed up on my radar but i am glad your brought this to light , Doug, as i am enjoying this song immensely. It is hard to come across a band with such tasteful compositional skills, beautiful melodies, mysterious moods and just the right amount of nasty metaldom. Excellent work.

Hi Andrade! This is probably their most impressive single piece, but I think you will thoroughly enjoy an exploration into their other pieces and albums. CH is a tremendously talented and impressive band and I hope you do check out their other songs and albums and enjoy them as much as I do. Both “In Contact” and “Rise Radiant” are wonderful albums worthy of exploration.

I think, the stone masonry here is the metaphor for how parents raising their children, shaping them. It’s hard work, and it becomes harder when you observe what you did, and start losing faith in yourself and in your work - then you reconcile and understand that the work is never done, until your son becomes a father as well and face the same.

People focus so much on their newer stuff... meanwhile "The Tide, The Thief, and River's End" remains my second favorite prog-metal album ever (in 25 years of listening to prog metal) - "Into the White" is such a moving, atmospheric song with my favorite vocals, and some of my favorite guitar parts. But the whole album is just straight up bangers. Water's Edge, Thief, A Gift to the Afterthought... I get shivers just thinking about that album. Would be awesome if you did maybe a song or three of their stuff from that period :)

Hey Doug, I love your content especially compared to other react channels since they usually don't comment on the musical theory at all. I noticed from your Opeth videos that you really like the weird chord progressions and transitions. Please consider watching some Avenged Sevenfold. They often incorporate partial or full orchestral sections and do a great job over all to really fill as much of the musical space. I suggest Sidewinder, Unbound and The Wicked End for a start. A Little Piece of Heaven is a masterpiece but it's subject matter is maybe a bit to sinister for your channel. In any case, thank you for these videos and take care!
