Unfortunately, the Midnight Special would sometimes have people cut their songs to shorter versions.

This was on Saturday Night Special, so it couldn't last more than 6 minutes or so to fit commercials in. This is not the best version. For the best of Little Feat, you gotta go with the "Goodbye Colombus" album. The band still plays without Lowell, and they are still a hot show.

One reason I like your podcast is your theory and other analysis of the music. You should however refrain from playing along and/or over the music especially when you don’t know the song. Kinda spoils the experience. Sorry no points on this one Doug. But I still luv ya.

I think if you say double harmonic major one more time Fariya Faraji will come at you with a pitchfork. This song is most likely in sindhu bhairavi raga (I'm no expert).

This one is a truncated version of this song, with the 2nd verse omitted. There are concert versions that are complete with extended jams.

While it is great to see Emmy Lou Harris and Bonnie Raitt, the sad truth is you can't hear them on this performance because I think they never turned on their microphone, or some other excuse. Had the good luck to see Little Feat, for the first time, with Lowell George at the University of New Hampshire in 1978, on the tour promoting their "Waiting For Columbus" live album. The version of "Dixie Chicken" on that album is much longer that the Midnight Special version, and segues into "Rocket In My Pocket".

I think you got it backwards. If he will be the Dixie Chicken, she'll be the Tennesee Lamb. Chicken is a reference to money (sugar daddy) and she will be his girl and all that comes from it (including sex). He falls for her, buys her a house, then she runs off with another sugar daddy. All the guys at the bar fell for the same scam at the end.

There's a Brazilian guy called Arrigo Barnabe which is kind similar to Zappa's type of music. His debut album "Clara Crocodilo" was released in the 80's and was laureated in a Tv popular music festival... You should try it....

Its in the Key of S, and then finishes on an L mixydolian flat seventh. Subtle undertones to an E instead of E flat.... There's your Q, too bad they don't have a real G minor to A, B minor, I think, flat 6, E but its dominant, and then goes to a seventh, a half step, beautiful.

Doug, are you aware of this following fact: Jason Newsted, bassist, was a replacement to the previously killed and decapitated Cliff Burton, a one-of-a-kind dude they loved. It was as it the band decided that no bassist would ever be as good and as loved as Cliff Burton, and, wrong as I think it is, they hazed Jason and disrespected him. They purposely low-mixed-in his bass, what a terrible decision because it lowered the quality of the music. Somebody did Jason right with the And Justice For Jason remix.

The version of this song from "Waiting for Columbus" is really the definitive version of this tune. This version was missing an entire verse (We made all the hot spots - my money flowed like wine...) and a lot of fixed instrumental parts of the song; they obviously made a huge cut edit right after Sam Clayton's little percussion solo. It's interesting to see the musicians, but unfortunately this performance was really butchered for television, a lot was cut out. Typically Bill Payne does some really outstanding rag-time piano playing in the segments they edited out.
