Shinee has been the masters of "weird ass songs that dont make sense" but making it a masterpiece. This really is right up their alley, they're just giving a mainstream 4th gen sound to it. I can't think of another group that could pull this off.

In conclusion, SM, although bad at managing artist, they're not afraid of experimenting. It's not just SHINee who can pull off different genres, but all of their artist which is pretty amazing.

To my known, SHINee always the forefront for the experimental,like since ever they debut tbh. SHINee was meant to be a hip hop group tbh. n id say with their releases u can see why SHINee is SHINee.

@@layloo5244 Actually, they were supposed to debut as a Hip Hop group and ended up debuting as an experimental group but were well known for R&B and Pop. But regardless, they are 5 talented kings with killer vocals

Yoo Young Jin has always been experimenting with songs that go in all sorts of directions. H.O.T’s “Line Up!” And “Iyah” are great examples of that. TVXQ’s songs as well.

I couldn't find a good spot to put our name tags on the screen since we reacted to the song before I wrote the intro script, but his name is Sean, he's a composer and has perfect pitch!!! So he can break down things pretty quickly 🤩

Maybe I'm wrong but I feel like SM groups are usually one of the few groups that consistently utilize most/all members in harmonizing or full-group singing. Like most Kpop rarely ever has EVERY member singing at once, but the SM groups do it a lot.

Through the years, shinee have gathered a lot of fans because they never go with the "safe choice". They often go 'against' the trends when it comes to concepts, they don't stick with a scheme and I love that they prefer experimenting with their style over sticking to a certain picture. You never know what to expect because they're over the part of "I have to promote this and it has to blow up" in their career; it's more of a "let's find out new facettes of ourselves in our work, we have fans who appreciate it." Being a shawol is always fun, even if you're not a shawol, you always enjoy shinee. They're like bertie botts beans yk? You never know what taste you get even if you pick a bean lol

I find it really fascinating that this song was originally offered to Boa, a female soloist. Like I can't imagine it any other way then shinee now but man would be interested to hear the demo and what changes were made because shinee vs. boa way different vibes.

Minho was talking about how the military affected his voice when producer noticed that his voice sounded much more rich! His reason was because he was always singing military songs while on duty, so Leon isn’t wrong when he says that he noticed how angry their tone is in the harmony! 👀

I’d be interested if anyone who didn’t necessarily enjoy it changes their mind! My first reaction was also “not for me, I’ll enjoy the other tracks this album.” But now I can’t stop chanting and playing “DON’T CALL ME” it’s such a grower!! I’m obsessed 😭😭

I'm still not a huge fan of the song, although I do love the chorus - I hate it a little less each time I hear it but it will never be a top song for me. (The same goes for Exo - Wolf - just not for me, although the live version is great because of the choreo)

@@jamesrawlins735 I feel the same way. When I first heard it I was downright angry and actually thought it sounded like Super M or even more generic. Watching the choreo demo tape helped -- I started to get into it through the performance aspect and how much artistry they brought to the dance and then got hooked. Still not a fave of mine. But proves once again SHINee can do no wrong.

Many people thought it sounded like other groups but if you really get to the nitty-gritty of it, you'll know it's SHINee. I love that Cloud pointed out that this song is weird and that it is SHINee because SHINee be really doing the most confusing thing but also somehow makes it work. I really don't understand all the technicalities of it, I just love seeing musicians appreciate SHINee's music like this ❤️ like since you're the experts, people would really believe it if you say it's good then it's really good. None of the biased takes on it because you really know what's going on that makes this song very good. The way everyone reacts to Onew's voice just really shows how unique his vocal timbre is. The other members all have "dry" timbres; even Jonghyun had a raspier tone, though he had the technical skill to make his voice sound warm. I can only think of a few other male K-pop idols who have that unique "wet", bell-like tone (e.g. Shownu of MX, Hyuk and Hakyeon of Vixx...).

What a misread. Jonghyun´s vocals, for one, always brought such depth and complexity that cute as an adjective does not match SHINee.

음악 전공이 아니라 느끼지 못했던 부분인데 화음이나 코드 진행이 매우 독특한 노래인가 보네요! 'D minor로 노래 진행되는 동안 피아노는 C major (minor?)로 진행된다니 세상에' 말씀에 신기하고 놀랬어요! 다 장조랑 라 단조가 듣기에 안 싫은 조화였나? 하고요ㅋㅋ 샤이니 팬이지만 처음엔 돈콜미가 굉장히 낯설었는데 So originial! Keep healthy, SHINee라고 하시니 뿌듯하고 돈콜미가 더 좋아지네용ㅎㅎㅎ Thanx for ur shooting💙

i feel validated that they were as confused listening for the first time as i was lol but i didnt feel like this song wasnt visceral, i very much feel like im being bullied by this song. the intro especially physically feels like being tripped by someone. its unsettling, like when youre having a hard conversation and you know its not going well. GLORIOUS

I’ve never seen you guys so flustered and speechless before! I loved hearing the music theory applied to this song, it’s very cool how K-pop is breaking through musical boundaries and going beyond typical 4-chord pop. It reminds me lot of jazz re-harmonizations of pop songs that are seen on KZfaq a lot lately. Thanks for breaking down this awesome new song!

This song grows on you! At first I thought I wouldn't be hooked as much because it feels so grandieuse (like musical theatre) but it gets stuck in your brain, so addictive. Next thing I knew I was doing that choreo main point with the little kicks unconsciously 😳

The song reminded me of EXO's Obsession, but I couldn't say exactly why until I found out that Dem Jointz produced both tracks. Several of his trademarks are there, including the layered high note after a final pre-chorus buildup, a dramatic shift from a more synthesized sound in the verses and chorus to the use of more organic instruments in that final buildup, and a few other touches.

their reaction exactly the same as mine when I first listen to don't call me like fr. at first when I watched the spoiler from knowing brother, I was really confused LOL and I thought that I wouldn't like the song but seriously this song is really addicting HAHAHHA it became my everyday song to listen to and I never felt bored hahhaha. and also the album!!!! IT IS INCREDIBLE!!!! one of my favorite album of this year 🎉
