For people who don't understand Korean, the formal way of saying "I'm sorry" in Korean is "죄송합니다" (chaesongahmnida) so when the girl was saying her name which is Chae Song Ah, the conductor thought she was apologizing instead of saying her name.

The writer of this drama herself is actually a violin major, who after graduation, majored in business admin., the exact opposite of the female lead's situation. Some parts must have been exaggerated for story's sake, but inside stories (especially the professors) seem pretty realistic. Also, they made sure to make violin playing look legit; the lead practiced violin for quite some time (she had some experience in violin playing irl). In addition to this, the Korean violin prodigy Ko So-hyun stars as a promising child who struggles with an overprotective and demeaning mother. She plays Ravel's Tzigane in front of the camera, among others. Yeah the "I love you" to the f-hole was pretty cringe. But fun drama overall

About the conductors and teachers at a university and professional level - they can actually get that bad. I've had a teacher that treated many students like that at a pReStIgIoUs university and you should hear the stories from my colleagues playing under Barenboim in an orchestra academy. Someone should seriously start speaking up about this level of mobbing and abuse at work and at schools, because it's clearly normalised and (at least in Europe) really difficult NOT to experience at least once. And complaints don't do pretty much anything to the abuser, but you'll certainly have it worse afterwards. Sorry, it just triggers me so much that such people are in so many positions of power.
@verybarebones

This. I used to want to pursue classical as a teen singing in a youth choir of a pReStIgIoUs opera house and actually participating in professional productions, but I decided to quit, partly because I witnessed or experienced abuse of power, bullying and nepotism in a professional setting. It’s a shame, because the art itself is so beautiful and there are actually a lot of well-meaning passionate people in the field, just not in positions of power it seems. (This also happened in Europe)
@y.s2470
@y.s2470 3 жыл бұрын
I think it’s important to keep in mind the cultural context here! South Korea has a very hierarchical culture, so though it appears over dramatic, this type of abuse of power is actually really common in schools, workplaces and especially in historically elite industries such as classical music. From what I understand of urban Australian culture, it’s far more relaxed and egalitarian, where a student would feel confident reporting to management about a conductor, but it would definitely be detrimental for a student in Korea to attempt the same, especially since the university she attends is very elite. In this particular case, the character, unlike most, really wants to play at this event because she did not grow up playing violin like most of her peers. She’s a business graduate who later chose to pursue violin studies because she loves to play, and so falls far behind her peers in skill and also experience. In the scene before the first one they watch here, her classmate mocks her for never having played at this Arts Centre before and being excited about it.

Some K-drama and J-drama are pretty well-researched, the actors and actresses do actually play/practice their instruments. Well the plot is actually kinda based on the Schumann, brahms, Clara love triangle that is why the drama is named do you like brahms. And because the male lead relates to brahms way too much (in an emotional way) he does not play brahms ever. I guess it's heartbreaking for him. Ya, I've had to play with some not-so-nice conductors/ones with a bad temper and we all kinda just accepted it cos we couldn't do much. Once, our conductor stopped the whole orchestra to single out one violinist and tell them they were playing "even more out of tune than normal". And when in a bad mood, she'd sometimes blame the front desk for literally anything going wrong in their section which isn't fair to that degree eg if someone played out of tune, front desk would be shouted at, so it was kinda stressful sitting there. Mind, I've never had a conductor waste so much time due to it as in this. Like that is not the kinda thing one does when the soloist and whole orchestra is there.

It's not , this is in fact so unlike most proffession_related dramas , not 100% accurate but they tried their best to set the plot the closest to reality, besides from trying their best to portray the scenes where the actors play the instruments really well ! I do relate to their struggles and feelings with/towards music alot ! If you are interested in kdramas , and REALITY over perfection , fiction and exaggerating plot twists , this is a great one ! ( The fact that the main female lead is an average and normal musician , which is a very rare thing for shows , is a positive point ! )

And that it was important to study in university because that guarantees stability and income. I thought that in south korea you could not reapply to university as a returning student (adult) after a certain point..like say for example a 30 year old accountant wants to go back to school and pursue biology or chemistry, but he cannot do this because the system doesnt allow for it and he is stuck with whatever degree he has. Hello TwoSet. I'd really love to see your continuation on Do You Like Brahms reaction. Maybe you can try to react for parts that shows the main lead's dilemma and general daily life of music dept students and tells us how it is based on your school's past experience. Especially as someone who didn't follow the 'usual' music graduate path

Yaaas, I hope they react to that drama, I'm a pianist and somethings in the drama are a little weird, but it's a drama. The synchrony between the actress playing the piano and the sound it's good... The drama has pieces from Chopin, Bach and Satiè.

The female lead actress park eun bin can really play the violin and piano since she learn from very young. During her university life, she join the university school Orchestra. If somebody was interested, you may search in KZfaq that she have many practise videos. She play in real in all the playing parts in this drama. It’s very appreciate to see a drama that the actress and actors can really play👍
