I'd love to be sponsored by Stag. I had to sell my original AR under severe financial distress, and when I finally got my feet back under me enough to get a new AR, I got a Model 3. (I'd still love to get m hands on a Model 8, or at least the parts to make my own.) And when it came time to build my own AR's I made a Stag based gucci build with enough spare parts left over to make another Stag based pistol. Then I upped the caliber, and got a Stag 10 (From Classic Firearms!!) just a month ago. The only problems I have ever had with any of the Stags were all ammo based, user error, or build issues, or that my Model 3 is Keymod lol. My original Model 3 is the one I'd grab if I only had one rifle in a SHTF situation.

Got a couple easy ones. Stag, Wilson, Davidson Defense, Moriarty,... think Aero puts out a lefty upper now as well. Stag site under Blemish (blem) 80 to 100 dollars. Multi Cal, barrel it and dress according to taste. Also, just started playing with Elftman tact push button saftey for AR. Drop it in a trigger jig for a day or so to break it in. Don't trim the spring, loosen grip get it to work retighten grip. (so far it has been consistent after reaching optimum. As far as longevity? Still in early stages of trying to destroy it.) Clint… you mentioned towards the end about charging handles. Please do a video about cheap to high end charging handles! Im on my 3rd build and really can’t decide on a specific charging handle. Video should be about what the difference is between the charging handles, weapon size application, speed, feel, and reliability. There are so many out there and a lot of us on the budget build spectrum are always looking for that one sweet spot of an item. A smooth less gassy charging handle speaks volumes when shooting. Thanks again for another awesome and fun video!! Looking forward to the next one

It's nice to see that even with unlimited budgets, and guys that really seem to know what they're doing, they don't always functioned perfectly the first time. I recently finished an AR took it out and had some issues, the parts were good it was assembled fine except for a couple minor errors on the builders part, but I fixed those and it ran great.

Some of my favorite shooting rifles were the cheapest ones At $500 total. Put maybe 7000 through it. Beat it and it just keeps going. Nothing wrong with a cheapo. The more pricy ones don’t get abused so it’s hard to know how it takes a beating.

I think the budget rifle will work in after a few more rounds. As a mechanical engineer, I am intrigued by the budget rifle. I think part of Stoner's genius is that the AR pattern rifles don't need to be hand fitted custom masterpieces to work well. There is sufficient tolerance in the whole design to accommodate an assortment of low bidder components assembled into a rifle that still functions.
@andrewjohnson6907

I am also an ME, and you are right to an extent. My ABSOLUTE cheapest AR I built just to see if I could cut corners and get something to work runs 100%. Proper gas block alignment is KEY, and not terribly hard to do. I've even done 80%s that are dead nuts reliable. The ONLY time I messed up was a misaligned gas block resulting in a single shot AR and using a Sprinco Blue in a 10.5" that wouldn't cycle reliably, but does with a standard spring all day long. It's not that hard, just be patient.
@austin735
@austin735 Жыл бұрын
@@andrewjohnson6907 how do you properly align the gas block?
@andrewjohnson6907
@andrewjohnson6907 Жыл бұрын
@@austin735 put a straight edge over the gas port in the barrel, and draw a pencil line to mark the center. Your gas block will likely have a larger hole than the one in the barrel. Mark the middle of the gas block on the face of the gas block. Then, slide the block (with tube installed) onto the barrel and align the mark on the gas block with the line on the barrel. Tighten the set screws. The pencil will come off if you rub it a bit with a wet rag.

I personally own one of each of the spectrum. Now the firearms I own are are on the low side of this testing. My budget being $550 build, the out of the box, is a S&W M&P 15 with cosmetic changes and a polished trigger group, and my upper end build is about $3,400 (although I bought all of the parts over a period of time, buying when deals were available so I got it quite a bit cheaper than I would have). The "higher end" rifle was built with the internals aspect mainly in mind as far as trigger, BCG, Gas system, buffer system and barrel. Although I didn't cheap out on the externals. I tend to like each one of them equally, with a few thousand rounds through each of them, I have not had an issues following the break in period and they seem to all have their individual benefits. Now I will say that my $3,400 rifle was more finicky when it came to break in and I believe you run into that when you match tighter tolerance, different coating materials and more performance oriented internals. All I did was ran it a little "over oiled" during break in period and never had more than a handful of malfunctions. Now it is everything I wanted as far as performance. As far as function vs all out performance... "you get what you pay for" but my $550 rifle gets the job done smoothly as well as my M&P. Either way they're all AR 15's and do what AR 15's do. I enjoyed the video and have had a similar experience myself as far as opinion. I figured I would share.

The cheap build is either under gassed (gas block walking off the gas port or the gas tube may be inappropriately indexed) or you may have used a rifle length buffer spring... measure the length of the spring, if it's closer to 12in, it's a rifle spring... (yes it is longer than a carbine spring).

as some one who (use) to have a DPMS Oracle 5.56 it was out of box and there wasn't much to it but it did shoot well. When I see you guys shooting your various rifles from high end to price friendly I have to say that it all comes down to how much you want to put in from the start of a rifle to the end game of when your satisfied with the rifle and there is no more need for change to said rifle. For instance, take me. I use to have a rifle spent a little more than $500 on it out of box couldn't really spend a lot more it did not have a free float rail so I could not mount any attachments to it but it did shoot well enough for what I wanted. I made the mistake of selling it to a friend of a friend in hopes of saving enough to buy a more expensive rifle but that ending not happening and I hemorrhaged the money I saved up over the past year and now I am back down to looking at a more money saver rifle again or win your give away wink wink. so I will just say this if we all had the money to put in to a high-end rifle we would but if not and have to find cheaper means of owning a rifle that is why parts and attachments are enter changeable and more diverse, so we can up grade them to better performance when money is able to be spend on such things. thanks E. I would genuinely love to see how my EDC rifle (actually it's a pistol/"firearm") would stack up against Clint's Gucci arf. Mine won't get quite the same terminal ballistics as it's an 8.26" Bren 2Ms in 5.56. It was also purposefully made as a CQB tool that can fold up nice and tidy to be carried around all day in a discreet backpack. I think it would be an interesting comparison just due to the build tier and the amount of mods my gun has (the 2s conversion rails, Dan Haga lower, Ambi 3 position binary trigger, etc) that makes it more versatile. It's just a bit heavier and is a short stroke piston so the gun is unbelievably flat shooting even at 600-700 rpm with some practice. But in all fairness, I don't actually give a damn about what rig you have so long as you ensure it runs well, practice with it, know it's limitations/purpose, and you are supportive of everyone else who appreciates firearms of any make/model/style. I worked my ass off to get my Bren and to set it up exactly how I wanted for the purpose I intended. I've got several other ARs and have seldom found any guns I don't like to play around with. But when it comes to ensuring that your rifle will perform at "Rittenhouse" standards (be able to hit targets under extreme stress every time) then you have to decide how much that reliability/accessibility is worth to you.

3000 rounds plus and still golden with all its components is what I need to see in a build.

I built my last two ARs for under $500 and they work perfect. A better trigger isn't that much more.
