People complaining about the manner of speech sounding unbelievable should remember several things. First, this was an era before TV and radio, so regional accents were much stronger and more common. Second, the Bible was widely read and understood and its flowery manner of speaking was familiar and part of the usage of even the common folk. Third, this was also an era of story tellers, where information was passed on verbally and people had the patience to communicate and sit and listen to talk that may sound laborious to the modern ear - politicians back then who were known as top public speakers would go on for hours.
