You are doing a great job with these old bikes! My first motorcycle was a 1972 CB500 four, that I got for my 13th birthday (I'm 54 now) I loved that bike!

Looking at the front fork cap at 0:40 it looks like the fork cap has the gap in front. Honda designed the forks and the caps to be installed in the rear. Remove the caps and you should see an arrow that points to the front. Install the caps and torque the front nut first.... then torque the rear nut. Had the same thing done on a 750 that Hackaweek put together.

Bike sounded good at startup. The '74 550 I had sure had some maintenance problems, eg the kill switch was also an issue plus rust as it must have been kept outside, but ran great

To clean the exhaust you can use wd40 mix with little bit of brake fluid and you can use razor blade to clean the heavier parts good times cleaning it

Thanks for your wonderful work with CB- fours, this one is my favourite because i had 1972 CB 500 here in Finland. But are those speedo/tachometers from CB750, I think because of that cable alingment to "clocks", seems not CB500? Am I right?

Bike is looking good. Almost runs good too! lol Yea, needs a little TLC tuning wise, but should be a nice running bike. I do have one comment on your start ups though; you really crank those stone-cold engines over for what seems (to me) like forever. I never crank on an engine more than about 5 seconds max. If they don't start in that time frame, I go looking for why. If everything seems okay, then I hit it with some ether. If it still won't start after 15 seconds with ether, I go looking deeper. Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing it on the road!

Thoughts on upgrading the coils on these old Hondas? Thinking about getting some Dyna coils for my 75 CB750. Not sure if they make much of a difference or not. Currently have stock coils on it. (Upgraded to Dyna S ignition last year.)
@Bahlzeron
@Bahlzeron 4 жыл бұрын
Yes you will notice a difference with a set of Dyna coils, specially with the Dyna S ignition. Even moreso if you are still running the original coils from '75, heat, vibration, use, and time kills ignition coils.
