The cylinders and head, piece of cake. But the gearbox, that's like looking at all the parts in an old mainspring watch. No thanks.

I got a 1983 Kawasaki csr650. I have a compression of 110 on number 1 and 100 on the rest. Do you think it’s possible to still run and drive or will I need to do a rebuild?

Just picked up my first bike, a 81’ cb650. These carbs look slightly different. Anyone know how similar they are to the ones in this video or if there’s a full in depth for those identical to mine?

How do you? Know you have the right rings without gapping them first without physically checking the gap which means you've got to clean the cylinders hone if necessary. And then insert the piston without the rings on it so that you can get the ring flat level and check the gap at the end of the rings. Each bike has its own specifications for that gap. Finally rebuild the engine..

It's not just the carb that is different between the CB77 and the CA77, the head and cam is different, as is the crankshaft, the CB77 crank is180deg and the is CA77 is 360deg. crank. A little side note, there was a factory production racer based on the CB77, the CR77 it had a DOCH head, and a 5 spd trans, both of which could be bolted to the stock 305 cylinders, when I went to the Honda motorcycle school in '68 or 69 they had sone of the 5 spd transmissions there bought one , and built a race bike using a Wisco 350 kit and that 5 spd, the result was a lot of fun up on Angeles crest hwy.

I had a 71 450 for 17 years, I would hate to think the mileage I did on it, I think around the clock four times at least. Got porosity in the castings unfortunately but I did so many miles on it, would love another one.

Dude you make it look so easy! I hope it goes as smooth for me on my 76’ CB550 I just bought. I should’ve paid more attention to the engine leaking and thinking that it was just something small. About to start this rebuild process this week… wish me luck!

14:50 There is a detail that you did not mentioned regarding the outer valve spring. There is an orientation for them, being the closer gap coil towards the head. Some service manuals does not mention that either. If the right orientation it's neglected, valve opening and closing timing, will be affected at high revs.

Nice slick bike. If you dont have a valve lapping tool, or have a lot of valves to do: - mount the valve lap tool or suction cup in a drill. Clockwise a few turn, counter clockwise a few turns, SLOWLY. - Use a short piece of rubber tube in a drill, put rubber tube over top of valve stem. Same as above with the slow rotations, push on valve with greased rounded "soft" object (thumb, back of screwdriver etc) from combustion chamber side to apply slight pressure. Stay gold.

Thank you for the excellent video! I'm 69 and build high performance motorcycles, also repair and restore. However, I can't paint worth a shit. I really enjoyed your video and hope I can repeat what you have shown all of us. My present mess is a 1976 Yamaha RD400. I just fired up the motor with an auxiliary gas tank and it's going to be a drag bike. So hopefully I can paint the fiberglass body kit and not be embarrassed. As most of us know, it's the motor that takes you over the finish line, but it's just not the same when you have a shity paint job! Again, thank you for your video. Maybe an old dog can learn new tricks. 🤬
