What a great idea! I love this! A lot of these are on my TBR but two I recommend are Heidi and Night. I could only read Night in short bursts because it was so difficult, but it's so worth it.

I am 90% sure I read Night in school (I know I at least read a similar book) but it’s time either way to pick it up again! Thanks for your votes 😊

The Little Prince! ❤ Night by Elie Wiesel is really good, but so sad. The audiobook of it is fantastic too.

I find many of the classics free or 99 cents on audio so I can listen as I drive. I am almost positive I have read both of these before but not as an adult so will be like new.

The little prince is a lovely short story. Alias Grace is decent 😊 definitely pick up night! So good. We can do a buddy read of Ulysses but it would have to be next year. East of Eden is my favorite Steinbeck!

Sounds great and who knows when I will get to Ulysses- but I do want to give it a go. Particularly looking forward to East of Eden as I really enjoy Steinbeck.

Heidi is absolute treasure for the soul. I remember readingvit with my daughter and am saving it for future grandchildren. I already know I want to read it again. ❤❤❤ I've read Robinson Crusoe several times. Such a great read. I read The Color Purple years ago, but I don't remember enjoying it. Pretty brutal. As an aside: You might want to check on some of those title and author pronunciations 😉. But I enjoyed your list.

Ohhhh lovely collection! I'll vote for East of Eden (awesome), Armadale (I read it last Victober), and Alias Grace (I'm not generally a Margaret Atwood fan, but I'm Canadian, and that's one of hers that I like).

My vote is the Color Purple, Alias Grace and Night. I did not read Night but I heard great things about that one. I very much enjoyed the first two.

I checked out this same copy of Circle of Quiet years ago and found it interesting and still think about parts of it. Heidi would be a good winter book. I also have East of Eden on my shelves, and if you pick it, I would probably be inspired to finally pick it up myself. There is a musical version of The Color Purple coming out soon, but the original was really good. I've heard fantastic things about A Raisin in the Sun, another one adapted into a movie. Oops, that's 5. There are so many good choices! The Little Prince!❤

Those are all great suggestions though- and I didn’t actually know about the color purple musical- that sounds brilliant! Thanks for the heads up and I feel confident east of Eden goes in the mug! Yay!

Ooops-- I need to change one of my votes. I was thinking of the wrong book when I saw Metamorphoses! I take that one back and put the Orwell one in its place. Sorry for the mistake :)

I have read a couple of these, but of those, my favorite is probably Heidi. I recently purchased a copy of Their Eyes were Watching God but have never read it.

I vote for Ovid's Metamorphoses (because so much literature draws from it) , Their Eyes Were Watching God (which I really need to re-read!), and East of Eden (which I also want to re-read).

Very solid picks and I actually read several classics for the sole reason so many later works referenced or inspired by them- it’s a great rabbit trail to go down! I know you do this too. Something I admire in you. Have a great weekend ❤️

I 💜 The Color Purple and Their Eyes Were Watching God. Robinson Crusoe would be good since it’s referenced by a lot of other classics. I’m going to try to get to Portrait of a Lady this year. A lot of great ones on your list!
