Something hilarious to add about Aeneas is that at one point during the Iliad, Apollo dupes him into 1v1ing _Achilles_ under the logic that since Achilles is stomping the Trojans so bad because he's under his mother Thetis's protection, and since Aeneas's mother, Aphrodite, outranks Thetis in power, Aeneas should be able to beat Achilles handily. Aeneas challenges Achilles, and Achilles, naturally, stomps his shit in.

Still better than making a living by retelling those stories and sequels in a shorter 10 minutes version, instead of writing your own stuff... And I would say Hollywood directors are copying the aeneid, not the other way around.. Also for your information, this story is not repetitive or copying the first ones, Virgil did a very concious effort for portraying how history repeats itself in a endless cicle of war, he actually wrote about this.

The Trojans didn't actually find the horse and just say "Seems Legit", a priest named Laocoon saw it and immediately thought what we all did and said that it was clearly a trap. To prove it he stabbed the horse several times with a spear narrowly missing one of the Greeks inside. The next night two snakes swam in from the sea and fucking murdered him and his two sons before slithering off to the temple of Athena and since snakes are symbols of Athena the trojans were like holy shit this is a monument to Athena and took it inside the city. Athena however favored the Greeks because of the whole golden apple thing and so, she sent the snakes to convince the Trojans that the horse was legit.
@emmiebunny04

She also likely preferred the Greeks because Odysseus was a Greek and Athena was his patron god. Its also my personal headcanon that Athena gave him the idea for the horse, and that's another reason why its a monument to Athena

@@andrewjohnson6716 That makes sense in reference to pizza bit, as pizza is actually the Italian word for pie. Edit: Okay, there are some sources saying that pizza isn't actually Italian for pie and that the popular belief that it is came about after Italian-American immigrants introduced pizza to the USA as basically a type of "tomato" pie, hence where we get the term "pizza pie", leading to the idea that pizza is Italian for pie. The Italian word "torta" is used to refer to both pies and cakes. It's like the misconception that "sombrero" is Spanish for "hat" when it really refers to a specific type of hat, one with a wide brim. The Spanish word for "cap" is "gorro".

I love the musical symbology of the musical stings when The Prophecy is mentioned- when Zeus plays, it's a simple one-note power chord. When it's Apollo- the first god of music- it's a quick little riff that requires a modicum of technical skill. And then Hermes, who took over the role of music god from Apollo, gets a full-on orchestra. :)

It's not like Aeneas could easely turn around to check on her every step of the way since he had to carry his father on his shoulders. 4:00 Also important to note is that Athena is also mythologically associated with horses. She is credited with teaching humanity how to tame the horse, as well as inventing both the bridle and the chariot. For this, she was even referred to as “Athena Hippia,” translated as “Athena of the Horses.” I just felt that you missed out on the most important detail that associates Athena with horses.

I can understand that but I guess I was kind of confused by them saying they studied it for a month. I love history but for ELA I mainly read informational text, I have read older stuff like The Elements, Herodotus' The Histories, some of the Bible, and a little bit of the Odyssey(which I liked) and I thought they were fine. They were Goodreads if you had a book guide that gave you historical background to them and stuff like that. I enjoyed reading those guides as well because I like learning about historical stuff like time period slang that makes certain wordplay work and references that a person from the time-period would probably get but that are obscure to us.

@@user-qb6hm8qw2n I meant no offense - plus, Red actually likes the books as far as I know? It's just a throw away line. I mean - I also really like them. But, like, you don't have to love every little piece of something to be able to enjoy it, you know? Of course they aren't stupid, just a bit... Uh.... Hard to follow sometimes if you have a bad memory for names, you know?

The Olympians should be a rock-band, Hades on Lead guitar, Zeus on drums (just for the thunder/loud noises thing), Poseidon on bass, Apollo as the Freddie Mercury style flamboyant frontman, Hera and Athena as the perpetually-exasperated manager/talent wranglers and Persephone as that one super-shy super-fan groupie that Hades falls in love with... I'm gonna write this fanfic now

8:40 Why can I see Achilles picking up Patroclus and running. Patroclus is just in Achilles arms confused cause he didn't see Aeneas. (I know Achilles wouldn't run away. I just thought this was adorable)

I'm in college right now trying to read the Aeneid and this 100% more helpful than actually reading the Aeneid over and over again, so thanks a crap ton.

I haven't actually read the Aeneid yet, why do you hate it so much?

Sir Knight do read it though, and get yourself caught up with Roman history until Augustus. It's undeniably a masterpiece and I'd love to explain why with some examples but that would make a long comment... But I'm willing to defend the work against these 2 Huns 😜
