I really like how you’ve simplified your classroom decorations and created a nice clean look with card stock! I haven’t changed my classroom in several years, and this gives me an idea for next year! I

I found that using my stapler...(yes, my good old trusty classroom swingline stapler) to reattach the cheap backing to bookshelves was far more efficient than the tiny nails they include with the bookshelves. Haven’t had a problem since I accidentally figured out that hack :)

the sprinkler scene at the end made my heart meelllt ~ but gosh i wish we had our own classrooms here in germany. instead the students stay in one place all day and the teachers move around. i suppose it's good for the students, as to avoid them dragging around their school books all the time but having your own classroom must -- despite having to fix it every year by yourself like you just showed us -- make it feel like a little private sanctuary. something i sometimes long for in this hectic school environment..

I work in a high school caf....but I relate so much to that ahhh it all got cleaned feeling. You get back after summer and my floors look great, my to do list got fixed over the summer, etc. Its a great feeling!!! School starts Sept 3 here in Toronto area. This summer is just flying by I'm so sad!!

Book shelf tip: take the basically paper backing to Lowes or Hooe Depot, and have them cut a.sheet of beadboard to the same size. Take it to the school and spray paint the beadboard. You can use the nails for the paper backing to nail the beadboard to the back. So much sturdier, and it cost maybe $20.

I'm an Italian EFL teacher and to me it's so weird that a teacher has to arrange furniture... We never do that, it's dangerous and tiring! We have some people in charge for this (and similar) kind of job. Plus we are not responsible for decorating rooms and bringing school items for the kids - they are responsible for bringing their own items to school!

I’m not a teacher but yes, growing up in California my classes ranged from 32-40 students per class. Always said teachers MVPs (I cant even deal with me 🤣)

A Page by Page Life I taught 6th and 7th grade in Houston and had about 220 students on my roster. About 34 a class. The burdens of living in a populous state. I guess. I teach in Missouri now and have 100 students total about 20 a class.

Omg that’s crazy high numbers. I’m in Louisiana and the most they can have in elementary is 23. High school is 30 I think

Hey, Megan! I watch your videos all the time. I'm an English major in college right now and I'm torn between being a writer/editor or being a teacher. I think I am called to teach, but I'm nervous about it! Any tips or advice would be much appreciated! Also, I just wanted to let you know that I also got those super cute power strips from Target, but I returned it because it has the California cancer warning. Just a heads up, because I didn't notice it when I first bought them.

Oh no about the cancer warning, I'll have to check it out! One awesome thing about teaching is that a lot of people still do gigs on the side. A lot of writing and editing these days is gig work so it's possible that you could do both!

Ohh and bookshelves, I started switching to metal. I found one in a closet and when the kids couldn't destroy it, I started saving to replace all of mine with metal. They're pricey, but will last forever. I have one with a 1980s date in it.

What do you do about cell phones? My school doesn’t really have a uniform policy so kids get used to having them out and having that conversation takes waaaay too much time

Believe in yourself. You will do fine. Remember youre in control. Set all the routines and procedures for the first weeks of school.

Fake it till you make it. But honestly spend the first day getting to know your students and take charge of your class. The students can help you make the class rules.
