Awwwe, the first day does not determine the school year which is good. You seem like you got it together even when you feel like you don’t. I hope my first day with my 11th grade students is great in like 2 weeks.

I agree about Harry Wong's book! I don't even talk about syllabus or classroom management on the first few days of school. I always hated the tone that created.

YES!!!! Thank yo for saying what I have been thinking for the past 5 years of being in a classroom. You don't have to wrap the whole year up in the first day. The first day is about getting to know the kids and them getting to know you. The entire year is what really matters. The first day is exciting for everyone. Bravo! Love your channel.

I was looking back on this video and remembering how later this school year 2019-2020) would change so much and never be the same. The other reason is my year has been so tough in middle school with negative behavior, disrespect, struggles for students and teachers, and what I can do in January. I hope you have a Merry Christmas.

Bless your heart! Seeing this on Saturday, so I hope you were able to sleep in! I was there on the first day of school but was out the second moving my oldest baby into college. We picked right up on the third day though. The kids were fine, even said they missed me, lol. It all works out!

“You may have one chance to make a first impression but you have all year to build relationships” Yes! I need that on a shirt! And I feel the same. On the first day so many of my colleagues dressed very authoritatively. I dressed how the kids will see me everyday. Dressed business casual like but no jeans and no make up. Why create a facade I know I can’t keep up all year?? 🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️

Cheers to you for filming this! It would have been easy to have not bothered with filming on a difficult day, however, it shows wonderfully that life gets in the way sometimes and you can still get through. I hope Jenson is doing better now and the water is back where it should be. Hope you have a great year.

Oh boy! Such an eventful first day for you! One that you will never forget. What a blessing that your husband could stay with Jensen. Hope all is better now. My teacher BFF had to miss the first 3 days of school due to a tragic death in her family this year. 😔 Not the best start to her year, but it is already getting better for her. Praying for you, your family, and your apartment repairs.

First days are always a mess... they are confusing, the kids are nervous and quiet. I’m a huge believer in that you can change anything at anytime. I teach K-12 music in a small rural school so my only new students are my K kids every year. I had one cry because he was sleepy and wanted a nap. 😆 poor little guys. Hope Friday was better for you and your little one is feeling better.

Yes -it can only get better! Sorry that you had such a crappy day, but I am positive your students still enjoyed their first day in your classroom! I hope Jensen is better. My daughter vomited out of no where for four days this summer. No fever, no other symptoms to speak of. Then she just eased back into eating food and keeping it down and after a week it was as if she had never been sick. The norovirus (super common for kids) can come on sudden and without a fever.

Omg! I had flooding at my apartment too! Except mine happened on my 3rd day while I was at school and I didn’t find out until I got home at 8pm. Well I hope you get some well deserved rest and I hope Jensen is all better!

Oh....my goodness! I am only at 2:33 in the video but already I just wanted to pause to say I am sorry for the rough day you are having. I'm a mom also and have had those chaotic days that were just so over the top that all I could do was laugh through my exhaustion at the craziness of it all. Well, it's definitely going to be looking up from here after today, so that's good lol!

God bless you! Wonderful reminder... The First Days By Wong, in my opinion actually set forth many unrealistic expectations although his items on procedures are fairly effective. Aren't you glad that we actually have more than one day to turn the tide; otherwise, I don't want to think. Praying that your pipes get fixed soon and that your sweet son feels better, too.

I feel your pain. Our first day of school was the 26th. My youngest moved back to college, our oldest son went to the ER and was admitted into the hospital on Sunday. He was released Wednesday. Our oldest left N.C. to move to Washington state. It has been a week! Hope Jenson is well and the water is fixed! Take care.

Before my first year of teaching, we had a pipe burst in our apartment from laundry. I had a cat and woke up in the middle of the night; I thought the cat had an accident. As I put my feet down, I stepped in standing water. I had no idea as it was a slow burst on the opposite side of the apartment. Immediately after, I heard banging and people screaming this is the fire dept open up (3 am mind you). They were able to get water out, but as the pipe was in the wall, it also flooded my neighbor’s apartment. Hope it gets better for you and that Jensen feels better soon. When our kids get stomach bugs, we always have to wait for it to pass. Keeping them hydrated is the biggest thing. 💕

Taught preschool over the summer and all my kids had the throw up bug. Started my first two weeks of elementary with bronchitis. I really enjoy my kids and have a great group, but my energy has been 0. I think it can only get better and isn't going to set the tone for the year. I was recommended first days of school by so many teachers and I'm not a fan.

I’m sad the morning was rough, and I hope Baby J is feeling better! You’re an amazing TeacherMom, and it’s wonderful that hubby could be there to comfort him. I’m empathizing with you, but I had to run to Instagram to get a good look at your nails- I was distracted! 🤦🏽‍♀️ They’re gorgeous!! 😘 My first day is tomorrow... There have been so many setbacks with the renovations on our campus, I’ve had a busy summer with my personal life, and I feel so unprepared for the first week. We will make it through- I’m hoping to share academic content, but I will, definitely, be making connections and building relationships!

we have a teen leadership class and we learned if you make a bad first it is scientifically proven it takes 20 times , or rencounters , to get a different mind set from the first day of school

You poor thing. What a way to start your 1st. Day.Hope your son is better. Anytime you have a water issue the first thing you should do is turn off the main water valve. Hope the landlord got your pipe fixed.

Wow. What a challenge personally on day one. Step one for a water pipe break is to shut off the water main. Ask me how I know! Anyone reading this: if you don’t know how, find out so you can use it if an emergency arises. And get renter’s insurance for damage to your belongings. Hope all is better now for your little one.
