To help with the organization of the table caddy’s try this- You organize one and make the perfect model of what you want it to look like when it’s all cleaned up and organized. Take a picture of it. Then either print that picture to attach to each caddy or display it on your Clever Touch/Smart Board when it’s time to clean up at the end of the period. Then when it’s time for students to clean up, you can tell them to make it match the picture. The visual helps them sooooo much! (I’m a behavior SpEd teacher and this is one of the researched-based strategies we use so hopefully this helps :) ) Good luck as you start your school year! ❤

I find that keeping the supply caddies on a separate shelf and only taking them out when needed has helped a lot with keeping them looking nice. Otherwise they mess with the supplies all day and we are constantly missing markers glue etc. Its still a struggle but manageable. This past year I also tried using small plastic containers for housing the markers (hate the cardboard boxes) and colored pencils. That was a huge help! We held onto the same box of markers until they were dried out instead of constantly replenishing. I labeled each caddy with the table number and also each individual plastic container. I even labeled the scissors.

I wasn't successful with table organizers or baskets last year. I am glad I tried it, though. I always wanted to do it, and now I can say I did. I had baskets or buckets for pencils or papers in specific spots in the classroom. It worked so much better. Pencils on my desk so I can monitor it better. The paper was on the back counter.

I too have trouble with students making a mess in the caddies, BUT this past year I had table captains who kept them organized, cleaned and replenished! I also would remove them from the tables & keep them on a counter space sometimes & it was their responsibilities to get what they needed when they came in & put it back or table captains would put it back when they were done!

I switched to having supply caddies on a counter and only bringing them out when we needed them and it was a GAME CHANGER! You’re exactly right, it takes the temptation away to mess with them and then it’s seen more as a privilege versus a right to just trash. Go with that idea!!!

There’s a matte spray paint you can spray your posters with that helps take the shiny off laminated items. It dries really quickly.

I like the idea of the supply caddies. Maybe you can put a plastic cup in one of the sections for trash. I like having a designated space for trash so they het up less times.

You can get matte spray paint so that the laminated posters won’t have a reflection.

Store caddies until needed. Tried caddies on the table so kids can share supplies and it was such a mess and distraction.

Just a thought, but you could provide the question stems on their desks or as a one-pager in their notebooks. Model how to use it just to like you normally would.

I leave the caddy’s off their tables until we need to use them and then take them back up when we finish the activity.

Hey Charlotte! Your classroom is looking real good!! I teach math and science so...I have a few questions. Where did you get your science rug and Mrs. Frizzle's dress poster? I know that you do notebooks for science. Can you link any videos that you may have where you have talked about how you do these with your students? And how do you implement generation genius science into your curriculum, especially using the notebooks? We have new science standards that we need to implement this school year and most of them are along the same lines as generation genius. Help!😊

Love watching g your videos. I don’t know if I missed it, but how many classes do you teach? This will be my first year doing science and SS in 5th grade.
