It’s my first time back in the classroom since 2021, and I find myself feeling overwhelmed and unsure what to do (or where to start)! I feel like I forgot “how to teach,” and all the teacher things. My school doesn’t do meet the teacher. I wish we did though, it seems like it would ease the nerves of the transition for kiddos…and teachers!!

I can not wait to do some of your suggestions for meet the teacher this year!! How do you go about going to your kiddos homes? Do you go up and ring their doorbell or just leave the giddy bag on the step and leave? I soooo want to do this this year - what better way to start the year off by building classroom community then by going to their homes….. ❤ And I would love to learn more about how to use google forms - I’ve never done that before - but would love to try…… 😍

Does the BEE binder go back and forth everyday? Does it take too much space in their backpack? We have daily folders but trying to think how this would work with our winter clothes come December!

What happens if a student loses their BEE binder or fails to consistently bring it/keep up with it? Right now I'm at a school in a severely disadvantaged area. All they have is an agenda, and at least half of my kids can't keep up with it. Now at the end of the year only about 8 of my kids still bring it. This is 2nd grade. Then again, I have like 4 parents who actually care, so I'm sure having a strong school community and strong parent involvement helps. I'm just afraid to spend all the time and money preparing something like BEE binders, even though it's something I really want to do.

I don't prep anything for Meet the Teacher. We leave some student work on the desk and make sure there is some of their art on the wall. Everybody shakes hands and chats for five minutes or less. That's it!
