I don't know what you guys have done in the past, but I have liked when our team did staff shoutouts at the beginning of each staff meeting. We recognize each other for things that are different than admin, and it feels different receiving it from a colleague. Admin could also opt to recognize people during this time if wanted. One of my schools had a tradition of giving eagle feathers to the person they recognized. (We were the Eagles.) People kept a cup of feathers on their desk to remind them of the positive moments. I have seen where there is one award and staff passes it around each meeting. The person nominated from the last meeting has to recognize someone the next time. Kinda fun and something to look forward to.

I'm kind of late to the party as I just found your channel but we do a shout out Friday where admin picks a staff member to recognize and everyone reply all so that you say amazing things about your team mates. It's a very positive and fun way to say thank you

I love the idea Heather shared below about the Principal coming in and letting you have a 30 min break and THEY have to watch teh classroom!! Literally would be EYE OPENING for the principal to have to sit in the classroom and try to manage the kiddos. mine had no idea what it was actually like. ***upon further reading of her comment, I LOVE the idea even more about getting the grades all tgoether for a movie and letting the teachers have actual classroom time during school hours that's 2-3 hours! plus the kids get a fun "movie" reward. I'd even say maybe you could skip 1 Bus/Car duty (if y'all have to do that) and the principal or VP could take over yoru shift. If the principal has an assigned parking spot up front, he could give it up to a teacher for a day/week as a reward for something.

My principal has a plinko board with options of, extra 30 minute lunch (she covers the class), sonic drink, a duty covered, arrive 15 mins late and jeans pass.

At my last school… there were parent and community sponsors… a former teacher created an encouragement team and we would get gifts quarterly…it used to be monthly but that got too much for some people to remember. We would get monthly notes of encouragement! There was a survey we filled out that stated our top picks and favorites…this could have been not only personal but classroom needs/wants…but mainly personal. One year they pick 2 or 3 teachers to give a gift basket to of favorite snacks and cute trinkets to give out to students.

My desk is going to look similar. My mom organized it before the end of school and I did t realize they turn the thing sideways to get it out of the room. The joys of summer.

I love the idea of leadership teams and pairing with classroom jobs. It seems that it's gone well for you as you continue to do it year after year. I love the fact that they will naturally get to practice conflict resolution and such. The management aspect of it, as a teacher, worries me. I'm debating this option or just give up and have 2 kids do all the jobs each week rotating through the class in alphabetical order. Agh decisions.

For teacher recognition...coffee, take the class for 30 minutes to give the teacher a break, our principal buys dollar lottery scratchers and passes them out at staff meetings. I agree, we need healthier snacks sometimes!

Had a principal that would give us a 2 hour pass for either arriving late or leaving early. The pass was offered every semester and it had an expiration date. Most of us used it for doctors appointments .

Our admin took all the kids from a grade level out for 30 minutes of extra recess either right before specialist or right after so teachers could have an extra 30 minute prep period. They also came in the week going into Christmas break and did a holiday read aloud and craftivity to give us 30 minutes of extra prep time.

Tips for putting up the unlock if you don’t have a white board? Since it’s interactive I’m unsure what to do. Also do they ever have issues with the things in the packet? How do you make it easier if they need it? I’m assuming you don’t start this day one so you can see their levels?

My admin came by at different times with a cart with different things. Once it was cold drinks like tea, water, soda next it was chip type food. We had donuts, fruits trays, coffee, ice-cream all kinds of stuff.

How did you do your headers for your room and your quote? For example the word leadership over your board doesn't look like printer paper. How did you do that?

For being recognized They could make food for you guys that is what our school does we spent a week on making food and the last day of that week the teachers go and get the food

As a former custodian who worked during the summer if you have anything that is not on wheels please make sure you empty it ot make sure it's on wheels. Some people don't care and will just throw things around while might not be the case with your desk because most people put them on dollys on there side for easier transport without thinking.

Enjoy watching your “set up” videos! However, please try to be more mindful of those who are teaching off of carts, in closets, trailers etc. To complain about a torn paper crown and minimal damage is off putting. Your room is beautiful, full of light, free of rodents, warm when it’s cold and cool when it’s warm. Many don’t have the luxury of these first world amenities/privileges.
