My school is considering using Wonders for the 2022-23 school year. I would love a week of planning in Wonders video.

Love this video! I am a second grade teacher also. We are finishing up my second week of school this week. I feel the same way about the room cleaness haha the kids I have come from a high poverty rate school and attendance and such is low so this is technically their first year of structured school. So we are definitely not at 2nd grade level learning and classroom expectations are being gone over a lot! It was great to watch another teacher feeling this way!

Each week in Wonders has a different genre. We used Wonders for the last 4 years. We are doing Open Court this year. Good luck with Wonders. Just pick and choose, you won’t get through everything.

We are using Wonders as well, this is our second year. It is a lot! We determined what we thought were the most essential standards to target, so that helps. Our grade level is also doing specials at the end of the day this year (the first time I've ever done it) and we are struggling lol. We end up a few minutes late, and then the kiddos are dismissed to go home from their specials class. I've had to go to the specials class at the end of the day to make sure they are getting dismissed to the correct spots. Hopefully after a week or two we'll have a good system down.

We are in the same boat with wonders this year now that it’s year two!! It feels so much better scaling it back a little! Specials at the end of the day is soooo hard with the littles at the beginning. It gets better!

Thanks for sharing your week with us! This year we have specials at 1:00. It is nice to have big blocks of instruction time, but it does make for a long morning for the 2nd/3rd grade students. Looking forward to more about your math workshop!

Hi! Glad you had a successful first week! Starting Wonders too, and my best advice is to pick and choose what works for you and your class! Our schedule (third) is a bit different than second and we’re doing a 12 day Text Set. We also have a separate writing program, so there’s that😵‍💫 We’ve been doing baseline testing and have another on Tuesday😵‍💫🤷‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️. FL got rid of FSA but we now have FAST three times in the school year. It’s a lot this early in the year. We’ll see how it goes!

I get so excited when I see that you posted a new video! I teach 8th grade math which is so different than your day, but I love seeing your day and your organization. My goal this year is to not take work home and get more done during school hours. Fingers crossed!

Awww!!! Thank you for being here! How many periods do you teach 8th grade math?! Such a good goal! It’s always tough at the beginning of the year, but we will find our groove!

I teach 5, 60 minute classes (2 are Alg. 1 and 3 are 8th grade math). I get a 45 minute lunch and 45 minute teacher planning period. Overall I usually teach between 75-90 students. I feel like since Covid the work load has spiraled out of control. Hoping things are more on track this year. Keep the videos coming!!!!

I love the lighting with the lamps around the room, it's so calming! Do you notice it's more calming for the students, too? Also, do you have an aid? What do you do if you need to use the bathroom during the day?!😊

At my school every teacher gets excited when their specials are at the end of the day! Kids are so checked out so it’s nice when I don’t have to try and teach at the end of the day 😁

I don’t focus on all of the different standards they incorporate on one week. I look at the main standard and sometimes add a different resource near the end of the week. There’s also a two page spread in the workbook that you can use near the end of the week for comparing texts and it’s usually a different genre.

I too get so excited when you have posted a new video!! You motivate me so much! My goal this year is not to stay til 5:30 and get out at a more reasonable time so I have energy to do other things and not just collapse when Im home. My anxiety at the start of school is real… I’m always afraid that school will swallow me whole like it does every year.. this is year 30 for me. I love the shirt you are wearing over your black dress! We just got air conditioning so now i’m a bit chilly… lol. Do you have details or a link? It would be perfect!

Ahhhh thank you for always being here Kristy!!! Year 30?! Congratulations!!! WOW! Leaving at a more reasonable hour is such a good goal - there will always be more we could do at school, and it will always be there waiting for us. I try to give myself grace at the beginning of the school year, but we gotta get on a better schedule starting this week!!! I love your videos! They have been so helpful. Because of you, I’ve started using the math unlock challenges. However, how do you keep them from flocking over to you when they are working on it?!

Awww thank you!!! LOL - I do let them work with partners when they work on it which helps, but if they are stuck and can't figure something out, I tell them to circle the problems, try something, and turn it in. Then when I go through and check them, I can make a small group to meet with on the skills they were struggling with on it and we will work it out together. I have to make it so I meet with them to work on it when I PLAN, not them standing in line waiting for me to help them while I am trying to work with other students.

Can you explain how you and your teammates split jobs? What are each of you in charge of? Do you plan together and then split the copying? or do you each plan and copy something on your own?

We each plan a subject, and make a master copy of everything for the week that we plan for each teacher. At the bottom of each copy, we put an initial for which day to use it and note on the bottom if it is graded or not. It saves my life! But I have definitely been on teams where it wouldn't work because not everyone would take care of their part 🥺.

The readers include fiction or nonfiction with a companion story in the back that is the opposite genre

For the readers, do you mean the little readers for small group? We haven't gotten those yet - that makes sense though! Do the readers tie in with the focus of the week in the anthology book and the companion workbook?
