Schilling was a professor of parasitology at the University of Berlin. He practiced in German colonies in Africa in the field of tropical medicine. Claus Schilling was appointed the first-ever director of the tropical medicine division of the Robert Koch Institute in 1905. He conduct vaccination experiments on prisoners. The Nazi government of Germany also supported him with a financial grant for his Italian experimentation. Schilling met Nazi health chief Leonardo Conti in 1941 and was provided with a special malaria research center at Dachau concentration camp. He conducted experiments on Dachau camp prisoners. more than 1,000 prisoners used in malaria experiments at Dachau, 300 to 400 died. He was tried at Dachau trial and was convicted and executed by hanging at Landsberg Prison.
