Thanks for the video doc. I broke the clavicle, along with fracturing ribs 3-8 on May 12th. Today is day 10 for me post surgery. My fracture was non-aligned and both of the bone pieces were pointed different ways. From the day of the surgery, although I was in a bunch of pain I already started feeling some relief. I am not wearing the sling anymore after day 10, and my arm doesn't hurt anymore just hanging to the side at rest. I would suggest anyone who is on the fence about getting this surgery to just don't wait around...do it now. I think it's one of the best decisions I've made in my life, and I am grateful to have a good medical team to take care of me.

I’m 25 years old, will be 26 on September 9. Just broke mine a few days ago and I am terrified of surgery. I’m really not looking forward to having to be put under anesthesia. Really praying to God that it can heal naturally.

@@IFC97anesthesia is the least of my concerns, just wait until week 3 of wearing a sling 😭... broke mine in a drunken argument with my older brother when I was 16, but because I was underage drinking when it happened everyone thought I was being dramatically drunk. It's been 20yrs and my problems as a result of malunion have increased in frequency and severity over time, so now I'm getting set up for surgery and like you I'm nervous though for different reasons it seems. In my case because of how my collarbone healed, when I lift weights and my shoulder swells, it causes the bone to push against the artery limiting the blood supply to my brain enough to cause seizures. So I'm not at all scared of going under because this will hopefully be the last time I do as a result of my busted up clavicle. 😀👍

@@kshenriques yes, I'm still far from full strength but definitely progressing well. Still get some nerve pain with specific movements but I have something else going on with my SC joint the orthopedist was hoping would resolve from the surgery but didn't, so I'm not exactly the best example. However the surgery itself, the recovery, all of it went great and I've benefited from it.

My right Clavicle is broken Off of the Scapula and is considered level 3 elevated. My left clavicle has permanent damaged at the sternal end. these are the leftover results from going over my bicycle handle bars where I also broke 5 ribs and the right scapula landing on concrete. Should I pursue any other strength training other than bands to support these limiting injuries. the over head reach is the only motion that creates the pinching pain.

I broke mine going over the handlebars on my dirtbike, never hurt too bad... I was at high risk for non-union; surgery. Im in San Diego, warm climate, never bothered me sufficient to remove, until. Pushing tens years later the skin started attaching to the plate. Had it removed. I was also told by the surgeon, Scripps Sports Medicine, they recommend removal if continuing contact sports as the bone is weaker at both ends. I am three weeks in and board out of my mind as the recovery is similar to fracture, eight screws in that little bone has risk of fracture. The incision was glued and nearly healed. There are studies out there re clavicle hardware removal and refracture; namely women with low-bmi.

@@Wildcat-Woman I am so sorry, its not too bad, your going to be ok. I cannot recommend Daniel Keefe at Green Torrey Pines enough, and then surgery at Scripps Carmel Valley. Every touch point from consult to intake nurse, surgical nurses and f/u was outstanding care. I didnt do pt, I brought in a list of exercises and went through it with Dr Keefe @ week# / %weight. If you do PT id def goto Shiley in UTC. Keefe was my third consult before I chose surgeons.

Just got a broken clavicule last month, now im going through conservative treatment (non surgical), my doctor says there are possibilities of a slight malunion (about 1.3 cm). But i got concern with the streghtness of the bone in the future, will it as strong as normal or fracture clavicule that going through surgical treatment??

I am seriously praying for conservative treatment. I broke my new car accident. I’ve gotten 2 x-rays. Both x-ray techs said it was pretty bad but obviously they’re not surgeons. Really not looking forward to the conversation. Very scary.

Broke my clavicle last week. It's significantly Displaced, and non-union or malunion seems kind of likely. Figure-8 brace favored here, so that's what I have. I'm going the conservative route. Interesting thing though is that I don't have much pain. (Not pushing it, of course.) Is that odd? A bad sign?) Or a semi-decent sign that maybe it will asymptomatic-ish, even if there's a non-union. Great video by the way. Thanks for putting it up.

I had a complete break of my collarbone from a hit in soccer in 2005. I broke it twice within two weeks. I had a hard fall on the ice three weeks ago,,,, in a lot of muscle and nerve pain. finally went to hospital to find out i had whiplash and complete (non union) break of the collarbone again. I'm on pain meds, the dr did not recommend surgery or rather discouraged it. I can't put my arm up without those two bones hitting each other and preventing movement. i don't know what to do

If the bones are still grinding after a few days speak to a doctor. I broke my distal portion of the clavical in half. Day one bones were grindinding but after day 2 and three the grinding stopped and the big nodual started to form. Mine is 2cm shorter on the broken side. Got full ROM back after 3 weeks. Brutal bone to break. I'm not getting the metal plate. Hope everyone heals up the best.
