This time a year ago I was still recovering from major surgery and not allowed to carry more than a few kg so between the 2 of us we wanted to take one good pig out. Normally I would carried the first two out at least for dog tucker but that was no an option on this hunt. We did however secure a nice boar

Nice flashback in time Clay, I think Possum lost his knife when he found the hole in the foliage and lifted his legs up sliding them over, before dropping down to the pig. Your dogs did well on the hunt. You two got some serious exercise.

Great hunting well done, ... I think just around 17.10 on the counter the knife goes in the drink! I found my mates knife the following season after he stuck it in a stump after the gralloch and walked away.

I have had pig dogs deer dogs search and rescue dogs and I feel your dogs are as good as they are because of a very special bond you have with them that a lot of hunters don`t have, go hard Clay your a few years younger than me and I still hunt you just go slower and get more game lol

I like to wind some high viz tape around the handles of tools to help find them. I would salt the skin until the moisture is drawn out, scrape off any fat, then apply a mix of diesel and bicarbonate of soda. It works, yes. A bit rigid, but OK for the floor.

Awesome info! Any home remedies you know of to properly cure it, take the rigidity away? Or do you need proper chemicals for that? I've heard Native Americans would use the brains of the animal and rub it in.

Matt Patt I rubbed lanolin in but thought the fat may spoil a carpet or nice floor and it didn’t soften it that much.. Whatever the native Americans did, I am sure they were used to bad smells and replaced the skins often. I expect they rubbed in the brain to keep the spirit of the killed animal with them. Just guessing! I forgot to mention, it is a good idea to stretch the skin on a frame. Oh and I have washed my sheepskins in the washing machine on a cool wash.

So Boars in NewZ are weighed after gutting its a dressed weight? Suppose wouldn't make sense to leave all gutz in for weighing in... Funny because here in BC Canada we fish for Halibut sometimes upto 300lbs or more. During fishing derbies we weigh the fish whole and do everything possible to maintain weight like going so far as to stick tampons into wound holes so the blood doesn't escape. I kid you not.

Hey clay I had an idea for a video maybe you could do a video of all the hunting dogs you've had past and present maybe an imagine or small clips and say what they where and maybe what happened to them for people like myself who always end up commenting what happend to that dog or when did you have that dog etc? Are the lands you are hunting a young pine plantation?? If so, could be the reason there is not as much food for the pigs compared to a proper forest. Just my questions and thoughts. Loved the video anyway so thanks a bunch Clay!!

great stuff,never had the chance to hunt wild boar and sadly never will now but its awesome to see the mix of dogs that hunt and do it successfully! Bee and pace would be fox, hare and rabbit dogs here in the uk,well tell a lie,just rabbit dogs now as even hunting fox and hare is against the law these days!
