Question: does iodine work for cleaning piercings? I know that it’s used to disinfect surgery locations and infections, but is it ok to use on piercings too?

Honestly, I don’t blame them at all for roasting her. She works there. Her lack of care for piercings that she got at work is bad for business. My bestie is a tattoo artist and I’m her shop, an apprentice dropped a needle on the floor and EVERYONE yelled toss it, don’t use it. It’s serious stuff!
@catumiriparvum9178
@catumiriparvum9178 Жыл бұрын
I think them posting it to a global audience online pretty much rules out the “bad for business” justification for how they treated her in this video. I wouldn’t go to a place that shames *anyone* for a mistake. That makes people not want to ask for help.
@ghoultooth
@ghoultooth Жыл бұрын
@@catumiriparvum9178 But it wasn’t a mistake. You don’t ‘accidentally’ not clean a piercing. Maybe occasionally forget, sure. But just NOT clean it AND sleep on the piercing? It’s just dumb. You wouldn’t trust a dieting coach that only ate fast food, same kinda thing.
@catumiriparvum9178
@catumiriparvum9178 Жыл бұрын
@@ghoultooth None of what you said justifies shaming someone. It also doesn’t address why I wouldn’t go to a business that shames people (mistake or not). Shaming decreases help-seeking. If people are going to be mocked and judged, they won’t ask for help. I hope her lack of ear care wasn’t due to something like a depressive episode or a manic episode. I hope we do better on those posts of people who didn’t brush their hair for months because they just couldn’t function. Not brushing their hair wasn’t a “mistake” either. It’s her ear. Handle it in private. I don’t judge the personal habits of any professional who works effectively in my life, actually. That’s a boundary issue. What an eating coach eats is none of my business.

Best advice I ever got from my surgeon, clean it, leave it alone and wait. Works for pretty much any laceration or wound to the skin. Your body is great at healing itself, but it needs to be clean in order to do that. Usually, for minor wounds, water and soap until it properly closes over is enough. Fro piercings, whatever your piercer prescribes is probably enough. Just, don’t go touch it all the time. Your hands are dirty and will irritate the skin trying to heal. Clean, leave alone, wait. It works every time

The thing that surprises me is this wasn't one of those infections that pop up after a couple of days. If she literally had a hairball caught up in the discharge she's been working on that infection for a while. I didn't feel like they were giving her an extra hard time It fit the crime. She works in a piercing salon and allows that to happen. Come on girl. To be fair I bet she will be on top of her piercing hygiene from now on. If not they should make her remove all of her piercings. Update Spoiler. She ended up quitting when she fainted watching a customer getting a piercing.

They actually advise not to remove the piercing. Otherwise the hole will close and the infection will be trapped and cause an abscess. By putting the piercing back in he ensures that the hole does not close and the infection can drain.

@@AS.02 I used a Q-tip, cleaned around the piercing with warm water then followed up with the cleaner I got from the piercing facility (I then dried and cleaned again, sometimes twice). @@hildia5439 You're not supposed to move them around and clean inside the hole. You're just exposing the open wound and killing any kind of natural protection your body is trying to send there, not giving it a chance to heal on its own. The cleaner you were given is meant to clean, disinfect and prevent any kind of build up around the piercing. Your body will handle the rest on the inside on its own (if given the chance, which you didn't give them).

You could have had an allergic reaction to the piercing. I get an allergic reaction to the kind of rings they use after they pierce you unless it’s stainless steel. I literally can’t even use hypoallergenic without it getting infected. No plastics either, they burn. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Not saying that this is what’s going on with you but it’s definitely something to consider. 🙂

I really appreciate that this piercing shop is informing people about aftercare because that is SUPER important. However, as a person with 24 piercings, I’d like to add some advice from my own experience. (Warning: LONG) Disclaimer 1: I am talking about piercings that have mostly or entirely healed. If you just got pierced, *do what your piercer says*. This advice does NOT apply to new piercings. Disclaimer 2: For whatever reason, my body seems to tolerate piercings very well. My middle sister always wanted an eyebrow piercing more than anything, and when she got it, the piercing got infected and her body started rejecting it (the ring kept migrating closer to the surface of her skin). Not everyone does well with piercings. TRIPLE ANTIBIOTIC OINTMENT IS YOUR FRIEND. This is an OTC thing in the U.S. If you are starting to notice that any piercing is getting painful, or the skin around it is swelling, or (goodness forbid) there is pus present, slather on some antibiotic ointment. Hydrogen peroxide is also your friend. That is a good way to clean out piercings that aren’t necessarily infected but just kind of grody. On the heels of that, if you shower/bathe regularly, you should be using soap and water on your piercings. You don’t necessarily have to remove them every time you shower, but (for example), if you have a belly-button piercing like I do, lathering up a washcloth and washing around it is a good idea. You also want to rotate your piercings periodically (by this I mean washing your hands and moving your hoop piercings around/rotating your stud piercings). Be aware of the kind of jewelry you’re using in your piercings! Recently I put a cheap hoop in one of my eyebrow piercings, which is over 10 years old and entirely healed. That was NOT a good idea. The area around the new ring got a bit swollen and red and itched like *crazy*. I removed it, washed the hole with hydrogen peroxide, and slathered antibiotic ointment all over the new stainless steel ring I’d ordered. It took less than a day to go back to normal. Most people seem to do okay with stainless steel or titanium jewelry (like me). Gold is the most non-hypoallergenic metal of all, of course, but is also INCREDIBLY expensive. While silver might seem like a good choice, some people like me have problems with silver piercing jewelry. Relatedly, be careful of cheap earrings for lobe piercings. I like to change out the studs in my left ear sometimes, but recently I ordered a couple of really neat-looking studs that turned the skin around them green. (I took them out). It’s worth a little more money to get better quality jewelry. As far as not sleeping on your piercings goes - you definitely should NOT do that when you are just pierced. However, when you have multiple piercings in each ear like I do, it’s pretty hard to completely avoid sleeping on them. If your piercings start to hurt when you sleep on them, you can try changing the jewelry in them (once I had the most *gorgeous* gemstone earrings in my left ear, but the stud part of the earring was long enough that it dug into my neck and hurt a lot) or take them out before you go to sleep. The latter choice may depend on how quickly you heal; I once had to take out my facial piercings for an operation and about 12 hours later the holes had started to close over. (It was NO FUN forcing the piercings through a healing membrane). Cleaning out the piercings can also help. IMHO, sleeping on healthy healed piercings is NOT painful. If you see skin growth around your piercing site, or have piercings that won’t stop bleeding or start leaking green-hued/smelly pus, contact your piercer and doctor RIGHT AWAY! TL;DR: Geting pierced isn’t as dangerous as some people make it out to be, but it’s still necessary to take care of your piercings as long as you have them and know what to do if they start to get infected or irritated. 😊

Id like to say that you should never put hydrogen peroxide on piercings even if they may look infected. That's always been the thing to do but in recent years they've found that it can make matters worse. Just stick to a wound wash saline solution and the antibiotic ointment(if needed). I used to think the same thing until I talked to my piercer about it. Never rotate them either or use qtips unless they're sterile. I always buy the off brand wound wash that has a spray top and just spray it on my piercing. It's messy but it's the best way to make sure no bacteria get any where near it. And don't touch it unless you've just washed your hands with antibacterial soap.

For people who have piercings, I need some advice! Everytime I wear earrings of any kind, this black crusty stuff will develop around my piercing hole. @chewybits3662
@chewybits3662 2 жыл бұрын
Hey there! I'm pretty sure that is just a buildup of dirt, sweat, and probably skin cells as well. It's always good to keep your piercings clean every day, even if they are already healed! But if it's painful, I would probably check to make sure the jewlery is of good quality, and if it won't stop hurting, maybe your body is telling you that it doesn't want the piercings
@candiedolives5340
@candiedolives5340 2 жыл бұрын
You definitely need better quality jewelry. Look for silver, gold, stainless/surgical steel or implant grade. It's not normal to have any discharge or buildup from piercings that are fully healed. Also, try not to wear them while you sleep. If you're just super sensitive, that will give your ears time to breathe & heal daily.
