McCulloch MC1375 Steam Cleaner vs Dupray Neat. I compare two very popular steam cleaners - the McCulloch and the Dupray brand. They're both under $200 and do a great job at steam cleaning. What's the best steam cleaner for home? Watch to find out!

Steam Cleaners are the best nontoxic all purpose cleaning machines because they kill germs, bacteria and microorganisms like mold and dust mites. They’re perfect for no or low chemical cleaning so if you have allergies or sensitivities to smell, you don’t have to worry.
Use them at home or to detail your car. They can be used so many different ways. I demo some of them for you.
Best of all steam cleaning gets your home to a new level of clean.
These steam machines are similar in price and size so let’s get into the details of each.
STEAM TEMPERATURE
Water has to be heated to 175 degrees for it to effectively sanitize and both clear that hurdle but the McCulloch heats to 212F and the Dupray Neat gets to 290 degrees.
BOILER
What about the boiler? This is where the water heats up and is stored. It gets to over 200 degrees.
It doesn’t say what the McCulloch is made of but I did ask on the site that I linked to in the video description and the answer was copper.
The Dupray Neat is made of aluminum. In their higher end models like the Tosca, they use steel.
Filling the Tank
The McCulloch has a 48-ounce water tank. The Neat holds 54oz.
PRESSURE
PSI is a measure of the pressure.
58 PSI steam pressure for the McCulloch
50 PSI steam pressure for the Neat
TIME TO HEAT
McCulloch 12 minutes to heat up and the Neat is faster - more around 8 minutes. But I found them pretty similar.
Does it have continuous steam?
To me it’s a MUST HAVE. Yes, they both have it.
WEIGHT
McCulloch 13 lbs.
Neat weights 9 lbs.
ACCESSORIES
18 for the Neat
Technically the McCulloch has 20 accessories and the Neat has 18. However, both call things accessories that I wouldn’t. Like I don’t consider the canister an accessory or one fragrance disk an accessory.
They both have the essentials though. However, the McCulloch doesn’t have any bonnets to fit over the triangle tool and I wish that it did. It absorbs water and prevents scratching. Plus it evens out the steam.
They both have a floor mop, mop pads, brushes, scrapers and brushes.
Cord and Hose Length
6 feet 6 inches on the hose for the Neat and a 16 foot cord
10 feet on the hose and 18 ft. cord on the McCulloch
COST
About $170 for the McCulloch
About $189 for the Dupray Neat
So very close, but let’s look at the warranty. That’s a big difference.
WARRANTY
2 years on the Mc for the entire machine.
2 years on the Neat but it has a LIFETIME WARRANTY ON THE BOILER.
In the next video I’ll link to a steam clean with me video featuring me cleaning a kitchen and bathroom with the McCulloch, so you can see it in action. I’ll put a link to my Dupray Tosca video review too if you want to check that out.

Just bought the Dupray Neat and I’ve been enjoying it. I have an older home and it get grimy quickly. The cleaner instructions does say you can use tap water or distilled but it says to drain before storing and to flush out the tank after every 20 hrs of use (if using tap water). The reviewer didn’t mention that she does that which could be why she has all that build up in the tank. To flush, fill the tank with 50% water/50% vinegar. Let sit overnight. Then dump it out before filling with water for use. Hope that helps!

How long do you have to wait for the green button? Do you have to stop often to wait for ready again?
@CleanFreakGermaphobe
@CleanFreakGermaphobe 3 жыл бұрын
It takes about 8 mins. You only stop when the steam starts to die down and you need to refill. Usually after about an hour of cleaning. In that case, you have to let it cool down completely before removing the lid, adding water (I'd add hottest you can get the tap water, to speed it up) and then wait for the green light.

Just to clarify something with about the temperatures you quoted. Many companies advertise the temperature of the water in the boiler, but not the temperature of the actual steam where it comes out of the hose. The MC machine is actually referencing output steam temperature, as 212ºF is boiling temperature of water. Since the boilers are sealed while in use, you need the water to exceed boiling temperatures to generate any useful pressure. At 58psi that you state for the MC, the boiler temperature would be 290.5ºF. The Neat with a boiler pressure of 50psi is actually at 281ºF. The output temperature will usually drop considerably as it's no longer being heated by the heating element once it leaves the boiler, and it has to travel through a hose which causes it to cool down. As for warranties, having a lifetime warranty on a boiler isn't going to matter as I can guarantee they won't repair it. The machines simply don't cost enough to actually replace parts on it. They instead would offer a deal to simply purchase a new machine instead (in fact, that's exactly what Dupray does). Labor costs to replace a boiler on any machine would not be feasible in this case. It would take 2-4 hours to replace a boiler, and with the average cost of labor for repairs, it would just be cheaper to replace the machine completely. They will simply offer to replace the machine for a discounted price (say 1/2 off or something like that). But the thing that you don't know is that the new machine doesn't carry a warranty on it, as it maintains the warranty of the original (non-working) machine. So if something is to go wrong with it after that, and if it's not a boiler issue, you are S.O.L. at that point and would need to buy another machine. Dupray is also a Canadian company. They don't have a US office location. The US address they list is actually a UPS store location. So if you are in Canada, Dupray might be a better choice here. When you buy cheaper steam cleaners, they typically will not last that long. They are not bad for home owners, but anyone serious about cleaning or deciding to make a business out of it, you will want a professional grade machine (~$1000 or so). You want to also drain out the boiler after each use (let it cool down first). This is important as the water you add to the boiler has minerals in it. When it boilers water into steam, those minerals are left behind in the boiler. If you don't drain out that water, you'll end up with scale and calcium build-up in the boiler, and that will coat everything and begin to harden over time, even if you use distilled water, as distilled water still has some minerals in it. This will affect how well the heating system works and can cause the heating elements to fail, if the boiler has an internal heating element in it. And you also want to store it where it won't freeze.

Bill, you sound like an expert! Want to do a video for our channel about this? I'm serious. Thanks for all the info. I did have a problem with my Tosca. A $900 machine. I sent it back and they sent me a new machine which has been going strong for a few years. I don't know what the issue was it even if the machine I got back war the same as the one I sent. I wish they would advertise the heat when it comes out of the machine. It makes it easier to compare. For most jobs and people it's enough to get the job done.l, as you said.

@@CleanFreakGermaphobe If you have one of those hand held laser thermometers, You could do a test at the steam outlet. the results would be good to know when choosing which of these two machines to purchase. You are right about Bill... His testimony would be interesting and apparently revealing. What he wrote about the temperatures not being compared, "apples to apples" make sense since un-pressurized water becomes steam at 212 degrees and not a degree earlier. Thank you for your very detailed video. Take care

Thank you Bill. I have been wondering how the Neat was able to make 275 degree steam since un-pressurized water becomes steam at 212 degrees and not a degree less. It seems that the quoted 275 degrees is in actuality just a wee bit of deceptive marketing. I would guess that ambient temperature would also play some part in the effectiveness of any steamer unit. Thanks for ALL the good info. Take care.

@@samuelsdaddy9703 After hours of online research, I just ordered the 1385 at $199 from Amazon. The next jump up would cost over a grand and the only benefit to this more expensive machine seems to be that there are no plastic parts and that it will outlast the 1385 in terms of hours used. If I were cleaning stuff for customers all day, everyday the $1,000 steamer MIGHT be my choice (although I might consider buying five 1385's instead). I did see a $5,500 steamer which would probably peel the hyde of a rhino but we, as homeowners, made the right choice in selecting the 1385 over the competition. I'm sure of it! The Dupray Neat is on the top or near the top of so many reviews. I was still on the fence as what to purchase. This video helped me decide on the Dupray Neat and that is why I am sharing my experience. Based on customer service alone I would not recommend the Dupray Neat. I recently purchased the Dupray Neat and I have to say their customer service is not friendly nor helpful. I made the purchase from Amazon and received it the next day. I was super excited to receive it so quickly and to get started. I agree with filling up the Neat and how the water can run over. It even did that when I held the spray button down as advised by the Durpray video. Emptying it is very difficult. The Neat put out a lot of water and did not clean my grout well. The Nylon brushes do not hold up at all. The metal one pulled grout out. I worked from at least one in the afternoon until 8pm on the shower and small area of grout on the bathroom floor. I had to do a lot of scrubbing. I had to refill the Neat multiple times (at least 4 times) just to do the shower. Having to wait 20 minutes to refill and another 8 to reheat each time proved to be quite a pain in the rump. I would have thought that one fill should have done a shower, but I refilled it no less than 4 times for an average size shower that honestly wasn't that dirty. Most of the grout still isn't anywhere near the color it should be after hours of cleaning. i feel as though I wasted and entire day. I gtried another day and finially got so frustrated that I just stopped. Now the bathroom grout really looks weird. I am in the process of returning the Neat Steam cleaner. I contacted the company about the large amount of water that i was getting and the fact that it really didn't seem to be cleaning any "better" (their claim in the Amazon description) nor making cleaning grout any easier than with a grout brush and a chemical. I also told them about the nylon brushes not hold up and the metal one pulling out grout. The area of grout that did turn out well I had to use a chemical cleaner with the Neat. I may have got 40 minutes of cleaning each time. Dupray wants me to video my issues and email it to them. They will then analyze it and let me know. After not receiving an email for well over 24 hours, I had already boxed up the Neat to return. I had explained in the email that I was planning to return since purchased through Amazon i was just reaching out to the company to see if any special instructions since it had been used. The emails have gone back and forth for days. They do not respond to my responses quickly. My return window will be up in a week. Each email was the same. I would explain there isn't anyone here to video. I have a medical rocker boot on. To video with a phone and be in water with a boot would not be a good idea and then flat out ask if I ruined my phone would they replace it. Finally, a response that since in the first 30 days, I could return it for a refund or they would replace it. Still did not address the fact that I had used it and would i get a full refund. I responded to the emailed that I wanted a refund (I had put that in every email) and have not received a response and it has been approximately 20 hours. Although, Dupray may make a great product the customer service is not up to par. I would accept the replacement, but I don't want to have to deal with the customer service department again if there is an issue. I called McCulloch yesterday and was asking about the 1375 verses 1385 verse the 1275 just to find the best fit for my needs. The person was extremely nice and helpful not pushing any particular product over another. I was really impressed. If I had an issue it may not have gone so well. IDK. Maybe if I had called Dupray verses email it would have been a better experience. I want to order another steam cleaner, but I am not sure which to order. Not sure if McCulloch is what I need or not. This was just not a pleasant experience. I just wanted everything in writing. That comes from experience of buying a new construction house 2 years ago. -Jennifer (just realized i am under my husband's account)

I’ve had the Dupray Neat for about 3 years now. It’s starting to get tired and definitely produces more water than it used to, so jobs get messy. Still cleans great though. I would recommend using nothing but distilled water to avoid calcium build-up. Also when filling up, keep the trigger held down and the water will go down fine, no bubbling up!

That mineral deposit build up is no joke , mines stopped steaming because of the build up . I use distilled and purified water and still build up . I went through this comparison a few years back. After reading Amazon reviews, I opted for the Dupray. It seemed to be a better built machine, though had less whistles and bells. Their nylon brushes are superior to those of hand held models. I have the Home model on wheels and love it. It only holds 23 Oz of water, but lasts long enough to get a good sized job done.

Actually the mccullough’s steam is not constant or spurs out along with with a lot of water, in every single video I saw on the McCullough water just never seems to stop coming out in one I even saw steam coming out of there gauge vs the other that it kind of stays as constant, also there’s a lot of reviews on the McCullough claiming that it loses heat and it just shoots cool water, and last nothing actually has the exact psi that is being claimed and this is all compressor style equipment so saying 58psi I wouldn’t swear by it. I have a Tosca that was $900 and it sits downstairs most of the time because it's so heavy. I only pull it out for big jobs. I'm tempted to sell it. Once your house is clean it's all touching up. The Dupray Tosca and it’s quite heavy duty but still elegant. Probably overkill for most homeowners. However, I expect it to last for decades. This is a great question. And to be honest, most are adequate. I have the $900 Dupray Tosca and only use it for heavy duty cleaning. But it depends on what purpose (sometimes higher pressure or temperature will damage surfaces and both models are adequate). I didn't get any better cleaning on tough grease on an oven from the Tosca than my Neat steam cleaner. But I expect the Tosca to last for decades. And the steam is dryer.

@@CleanFreakGermaphobe thank you for the reply. I would get a carpet cleaner instead, like a Bissell or any on this bestsellers list amzn.to/3kzxndL (sponsored) depending on the size and how heavy duty you need. Steam cleaners work ok but because they use extreme heat, they can melt fabric if you get it too close. You can use a tool with a bonnet over it (like the Dupray triangle tool). For grout you'll use the nylon brushes with the extenders if you don't want to get down on hands and knees. One steam cleaner CEO had a bar of Ivory type soap in a container. She turned on the steam and ran the brush over the soap and used that to clean with. Then mop at the end with the mop attachment. I think the Dupray brushes are the highest quality of any steam cleaner. They're more expensive to replace but they last. Also the lifetime warranty on the Dupray is amazing. I have the Tosca and sent mine back when it had a problem. They replaced it. It's been about 5 years now and no problem. The CEO I talked to of a $2500 machine did repairs on their products. I expect to have my Tosca for my lifetime. The Neat is going strong and I use it more. I got it when it first came out, I think 2 years ago.

@@CleanFreakGermaphobe may I ask why you use the neat more? I am trying to decide between the neat and their "one"- I know it is not the same comparison, but just wondering. Thank you

Do you remember what the shipping charge was for the warranty replacement? Thanks. 18:39

I don't remember them charging me for it. I think I would've remembered if they had because it had to have cost a lot. I'm going to look through my email to see if I can find anything about it. I'm pretty sure I didn't know. Finding a box was the hardest part.

@@CleanFreakGermaphobe It's ok, no big deal. I just thought it's weird Dupray warranty states they have the right to charge for repair service and shipping fees.

It will be different (higher) where the steam comes out. All steam cleaners will be less hot the further you are to the tip.

If you don’t mind me asking, have you tried cleaning hanged curtains with either of these?
@CleanFreakGermaphobe

I have and it works but is a little awkward. You have to hold the fabric tight while gliding the steamer over it. And you can burn yourself if you’re not careful. But it did the job.

So I’m your opinion out of the the Dupray Neat and the Dupray Home which is the better steamer
@CleanFreakGermaphobe
@CleanFreakGermaphobe 2 жыл бұрын
I much prefer the Neat. The attachments go on easier and it's better quality to me. However, we should do a comparison to be sure.I just got the Home a few months ago and I use the Neat more so that would be a good challenge. If you have the budget and want a tank of a steam cleaner, the Tosca is amazing (but heavier). It's so well built I think it'll last a lifetime. Gets hotter, holds more water and has more pressure...

What happens when ur using it and runs out of water ,or if u just need to add more water. Do you need to wait til is cool down or how do u know
@999forlife3

You should wait till it cools down and release any pressure with the “gun” so it doesn’t blow out when you open the lid to add water

Which would you suggest for carpet & upholstery mostly?
@CleanFreakGermaphobe
@CleanFreakGermaphobe 2 жыл бұрын
Either one. It's not really great for that, depending on the material or type of carpet. Most have plastic of some sort in them. Be careful to never touch the tip or get too close because it can burn or melt. I wish I didn't know that from experience...luckily the mark was on the back of a couch. Nothing took it off...

Thanks, for the review! I appreciate how thorough and detailed you were! But, I would make an observation: The surfaces you were cleaning were, essentially, already clean. So, the machines made very little difference - at least, from the perspective of a KZfaq viewer who was not present during the cleaning. More useful would have been cleaning items that were extremely filthy. Cleaning one side with one unit and the other side with the other unit. Still, a very useful review! Thanks, again!

Do you think steam cleaning might cut the buildup on vintage cast iron skillets? Most of the time when I get them they are in pretty nasty shape. I have to put them in an electrolysis tank for up to 24 hours. I can soak them in lye for 3 or 4 weeks but a pressure washer won't touch it. I'm a cast iron nerd, I know...
