Everyone thinks I have a disorder because I'm very meticulous with my equipment! When I'm done I always clean and blow it off with my blower, every single time. I look at like this, I work hard for the stuff I own and I've had my equipment for a long time because of me being meticulous. Even the stuff I've gotten for free that was used and I fixed I cleaned and take care of. My opinion is you take care of your stuff it will take care of you. I enjoy these cleaning videos, very rewarding

I do the same as you when I clean a mower, and I always blow the dirt and grass clippings off each time I’m done with my personal machines.

I always hose off my mowers after I’m done mowing. I’ll let the engine cool down for a while, then hose everything off top and bottom. Then I fire the mower up to let the engine get hot again, and use my leaf blower to dry the rest of the mower off. Been doing this for years. Keeps my antique Lawn-Boys running and looking good.

After brushing and/or air-hosing, I use a weak dish washing liquid in water, followed by a quick rinsing with a spray bottle. My equipment always looks good, and it probably helps them last longer (with common-sense maintenance). I'm in my mid-70s and have had only three mowers; they all last 20+ years. I believe that keeping your equipment clean encourages you to take better care of it. Thanks for the video!

Citrus solutions are OK. I've opted to not spend any money and use DAWN dish soap from my kitchen mixed with H2O in a spray bottle. DAWN is mild - has multiple cleaning uses (grill, etc.) and is not harsh to the decals and stickers if your a Purist like me and like to keep your equipment as OEM as possible. Having the stickers helps the resale value!

I have not bought a new mower in over 20 years, Most yard equipment I have acquired has been discarded and left on the street so I usually give them a preliminary clean-up. One mower ran fairly well when first repaired but it did not start after washing.....even after sitting a couple days in the Houston weather. Most days here can be rather humid. I traced the problem down to the "kill switch". A small amount of dirt got damp inside a plastic housing to gnd the spark and needed to be surgically cleaned and dried . Persistence paid off after wracking my brain....and recoil pulling arm.

Clean and dry prevents rust! I am a little more ambitious(reckless? LOL ) when cleaning, I blow, hit it with a pressure washer, then blow again. I hand clean around the assorted stickers and carb area though.

Pressure washing does tend to remove all the safety stickers 😉 what the pressure washer is good for is cleaning the underside of the deck from compacted grass & mud, i fitted a washout port to my deck but the washer does a far better job. After a good wash i, like you dry the mower with a leaf blower or compressed air.

I use a leaf blower after every mow. If you do that you get very little build up and the mower looks clean. Takes less than 1 minute and that includes under the mower deck.

i give my mowers a good cleaning on a frequent basis with what i know by heart whether it,s a 2 stroke aka 2 cycle or 4 stroke aka 4 cycle and know where to clean and of course which is the best task of choice from the garden hose to the pressure cleaner and here in Australia we have our Victa 2 stroke P/T (Power Torque) motors and well they often get a good cleaning as people are so careless to look after them from what i have seen etc.

QUESTION: I realize that washing your mower may not hurt the mower when you are using "City Water." However, what about using that feature of the mower when you have a "Well" with "Minerals" including "Salt" in the "Well Water"? Will that hurt the mower and create rust?
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE 22 күн бұрын
I guess it would depend on what kind of minerals were in the water? Have you had a water test to find out? If it's mainly sulfur and some calcium, I'd be okay with it, but if the salt content was high then I would stick with using compressed air and wiping it down with a damp rag.
@michaelzoran
@michaelzoran 21 күн бұрын
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE Iron, Calcium, Salt, Arsenic, Sulfur, Calcium, are all present in the water. The really bad thing is my Cub Cadet mower is COMPLETELY CLOGGED with grass after EVERY time I mow the yard. Other mowers in the past weren't like that. My Craftsman mower from the 1990s rarely got clogged at all. I only needed to unclog it about one each month and it wasn't that bad. The bad thing is, the Craftsman mowers are not high-quality the way they were in the past. None of them are. I am trying to find a decent used mower right now.

Do you charge a customer for your time and material to clean equipment? I do. I had a customer that asked me why I did not do a through cleaning after he had a plugged carb on his mower. I told him I would be happy to do it, but most people won't pay for my time and materials. He said he did not want to pay the extra cost and would do it himself. Thanks for the video.
