Dude fill the tank with water and then fill a ziplock bag. Size depends on what you’re cleaning. And then put that bag in the tank of water. Save a shit ton of money that way. Took me a year to learn this.

@p44doyle44
@p44doyle44 2 жыл бұрын
@@GCPerformance18 yeah get two separate ziplocks. Sandwich will work easily with chain. Or even snack size. The cassette is either sandwich or gallon depending on size of cassette. Put them in the bags and put soliton in bag. About half way up cassette will be plenty. Then get all the air out of the bag so only liquid is trapped with the component and it can sink in the unltra sonic cleaner. It will sink into the water and it’s plastic so the waves go in like nothing and you just saved a ton of cleaning solution. It works. Been doing it for a couple months now. Just get the excess air out of bag. Main thing. This way you don’t have to clean it every time too.

My Tips for using Ultrasonic Cleaner: Fill up the Tank with just Water and heat it up beforehand with a water boiler (Much quicker) Put the Parts in a Zipper Bag with the Water/degreaser Solution and then in the tank (needs way less degreaser) Always use Biodegradeable degreaser so you can dispose it in the Sink. Jup thats it !

@@GCPerformance18 a big ziploc bag works just fine. I'm using a generic bulk degreaser as well, no need for anything fancy or expensive. I'm using Smoove to lube the drivetrain, so finishing is with the smoove prep on a paper towel ahead of lubing the chain. It lasts a long time and stays pretty clean, so a deep clean like less is required less often.

Great video! I have an ultrasonic cleaner (and love it) but none of that special liquid. I usually do the ultrasonic after a normal bike wash (once every few months) and just add about a capful of degreaser to the water. Even then, seems to get quite a bit of dirt off. I use the Silca Synergetic lube too and am on 10,000km for my SRAM Red chain with no measurable wear so far and the cassette still looks new.

Another ultrasound machine tip I’ve heard is to fill the tank with water and then use a smaller glass container for the parts that you actually put the cleaner fluid in. Sit the glass container in the water. The ultrasonic frequency will transfer through the glass container and clean the parts. Then you simply remove the glass container when done. Uses less cleaner and you don’t have to clean the machine tank.

It's an old trick with the container inside the container. Car detailers and jewelry cleaners use ziplock bags with the dirty stuff and cleaning solution inside, and then the ziplock bag into the clear water in the ultrasound cleaner. Saves a ton of precious chemicals.

I have one of these at my house for my bikes. You can spray some simple green directly on the parts and put them in the water and its clean. You can also use Dawn dishes soap in a bottle mixed with water and spray that directly on the parts and put it in the water. Plus, it's safer than what you are using. Oh yeah, most importantly less expensive and you get the same results. I put warm water in mine as well.

I use APC and Citric cleaner on the chain and derailleurs and wheels and for the cassette. 4) use different brushes for the components. How often is recommended to clean your cassette and chain with the Ultrasonic Cleaner

The ONLY thing holding me back from using this method is the fact you have to reuse chain quick links. I heard its not a good idea to reuse them which could lead to chain drops. How many times can you use the links?

Some quick-links are reusable, usually up to 3 - 5 times. On paper, single-use quick-links are not recommended to be reused, but as long as it doesn't become so easy to be undone by hand, it should be good for a few times.

Do you typically clean a customers cassette if they come in for let’s say new CF wheels or something of significant value? I took my bike in a few weeks ago for new front/ rear ceramic speed wheel bearings and I knew my cassette and chain was filthy bcuz that same mechanic accidentally oiled my chain a 2 weeks before (I use speed wax) so it needed a serious degreasing. I was a little disappointed to get the bike back in the same filthy state. I work on cars and typically with the higher end customers you return their stuff a little cleaner than you received it. Just to set ourselves and our service a part from other shops. A quick wash does wonders. As soon as I got the bike back I stripped it all down to get fresh wax on the chain. That meant removing the cassette again to clean it the ultrasonic cleaner, when this could have been done at the bike shop. Even if they called to say we’ll clean the drivetrain at an extra charge I would have done it, but to reassemble the bike with dirty parts seems lazy IMO.
@GCPerformance18
@GCPerformance18 2 жыл бұрын
so usually yea I would do it if it was one of my regulars or just maybe someone new I met and they spent a lot of money on a purchase.... but ti all comes down to who the tech is and also how busy the store is and also if there is a rush for you to get it that day or that night...... but yes I always try to give it even just a quick wash for something like that.... just to show the person I care and appreciate there business but it is my store so I care more about that, where as a salesman at another store might not give too shits

@@GCPerformance18 I feel the same with my customers.. I’m a regular and spend my money at the shop but to me it just felt weird seeing the dirty parts on the bike after it was just removed to do the bearings. I typically do my own minor work but I wasn’t planning to mess up $1200 in bearings so I took to my regular guy. I’ll give him another shot it a few weeks to see if he catches the small stuff. I’ll stop by your store in a few weeks when we’re down for the Miami boat show 👍
