This is kind of a "how to" on restoring, or cleaning your fuel tank on an old Toyota Pickup. In this case, its a 1979 2wd named "Chihiro". Enjoy!

Hey, it's Colleen the previous owner of the truck. I had sold it to the guy who you bought it from. The fuel tank was removed back in 2007 and cleaned out. Since it then sat in my truck for 12 years without being started I don't wonder that the fuel was a filthy mess.

That was the original carb. I never even had it replaced or rebuilt since I bought her used in 1981.

I, too, wonder how all that water got into the fuel tank. Condensation can add up, but that amount is strange. Everything you did was absolutely needed. No wasted effort.

I'm the former owner of Chihiro. I had the canopy custom built back in 1982. It's a Thunderbird brand and I chose everything that's on it. The inside liner was installed about a year after that. I loved that truck. Used to take it out camping and sleep in the back on the padded liner.

Do you have a spare bed from this generation you're willing to sell? I have a 79 4wd with a chopped bed and I hate it lol

As the former owner who owned it for over 35 years. I did my best to kill that poor truck and only ended up putting it into a 12 year coma. I bought it when I was 20 and was in my late 50's when Chris ended up with it.

All that corrosion in sending unit and tank is because water. Copper alloy turn green in presence of water so all evidence point in same direction. Someone put water in fuel tank deliberately possible. People does that to have a lower price when buying also does that to boycott buyer for some reason.

I don't really think water was intentionally put in the fuel tank. As the former owner of the truck I know that it sat out in the weather not running for 12 years after the tank was cleaned. I believe the water in the tank was due to a is massive amounts of condensation over that 12 years. She ran just fine after the engine was rebuilt with no problems with the fuel. It needed a new fuel pump later and I never had the small amount of money it would have taken for me to get a new pump. The guy that owned her between Chris and me told me he replaced it before he started her up. That was when the oil gushed out and he sold it to Chris.

I speak from experience. In classic cars and collectors environment you get familiar with all kinds of dirty tricks to buy cheap. I'm not blaming the previous owner but any other potential (and frustrated) buyer .
