I know the black streaks are annoying, Here is how I clean my machine if I am not using it at least twice a week.

I have an Atlas machine also! May I warn anyone who has never taken their machine apart not to do so. It may never be the same again. I found your vid in my quest for a vid to help me rectify the mistake I have made. I think I bent one of the clearing blades that others are discussing in their comments. Now a very thin layer of clay sticks to my roller, as though it's not getting cleared away by the scraper blades. I shall continue my quest to see what I have done! (It's not the first time I've taken it apart, but I did quit claying for about 4 years, so this is the first time I have done it in a while.) Anyway, nice video; thank you for it! Can't wait to check out some of your other stuff, too :-)

Hi Heather, I find that using a cloth with a little alcohol on it does a wonderful job of cleaning a pasta machine and because it's alcohol and not water it evaporates quickly. There is also a blade underneath the rollers that catches clay that gets stuck to the rollers. This can build up and make colored streaks from the other clays. So it helps to do the same thing you suggested but also do it on the underside of the rollers. I only wish we could take the machine apart and do a proper cleaning but many machines are welded together and those that are not are difficult to get apart, much less get back together properly and have them work. This is something that I have discussed with Polyform and I'm hoping they come up with a machine that is built to the specifications that I told them about. I told them a machine with at least 7 thickness settings, a wider roller for larger projects, and the ability to take it apart and clean it and put it back together and have it still work properly. Would you like a machine like that? I know I would. Any one else agree? Another tip for you: if you have ever had your handle come off when you are working I found a way to help keep it in. Cut the finger off a rubber glove and put it on the part of the handle that goes in the machine. This will help it stay in better and not slip out so often. Hope this helps, take care, Dee

I like the alcohol idea. I use it so much I rarely get the streaks. I tried a clay roller, and it felt lighter, and flimsy compared to the Atlas. It didn't have a clamp to hold it down ether. I actually think it would be great an inch or two wider. I think depending on the clay it would be useful to take it apart. I haven't had issues with much clay getting stuck below, because I don't use it for conditioning clay, but I remember the days I did, and I hated that.

Of all the tools I have this one gets the most use. We are in Wyoming and it is very dry here. I use a drop of oil on a few places on mine or is squeaks at me :-) Thanks for sharing!

Your welcome. I don't get the dreaded streaks very often because I use the pasta machine every few days, but if I go for more than 5 days without using it, I get them. Thanks for watching :)

Mary Mathis hmmm... I will try to remember discussing time frame on canes the next time I do one. If it isn't too cold I could usually go two weeks without too much of a proble. Generally speaking I like to use un baked canes within about 72 hours when I can. It they crack, I put the cane in a sandwich bag and stash it in my bra for an hour or so :)

I would like to know how you get the clay that stays on the blades under the pasta machine????? I take a clay knife (the purple knife) to get the under clay...

I do my conditioning by hand, so I don't get crumbles of clay stuck there. Those spaces are always looking clear. Where the clay actually meets the rollers themselves on the bottom, I very very rarely get build up there, I clear it away with a toothpick, and dry paper towels every couple of years. When I used to condition cay with the roller I used to get all sorts of clay crumbles sticking in the under areas, and couldn't stand it. I pinch the clay now to make sure I am not buying rock hard clay.

I recently found my pasta roller in my garage that my husband also uses as his wood shop. My roller is absolutely covered in sawdust. Every crack is filthy. Is there a way to make sure I completely clean it, or should i just throw it out and buy a brand new one?

Lol...I was thinking the same thing. I use my pasta machine to make pasta, not to make clay crafts. And if they are using it for both, I hope it’s non toxic edible clay 😮

😊. The clay is certified non toxic… but I never use anything I use for real food for crafting. Good rule of thumb

I watched your video because I was hoping for tips on reassembly. Your final comment on the futility of taking the machine apart and reassembling it was quite a blow. Fortunately my girlfriend can muster an idiot savant's single-minded focus and patience. It hardly took her 20 minutes to fix it.. We use it for its alternative purpose, btw. You know, food :-)

+Christian Hansen ... I didn't know your were looking for a disassemble/re-assembly otherwise I should have documented my process. In the end , if your mind is of the type who has a mechanical-spatial orientation with a sort of medium skills you will be able, and the proper tools, to take it apart, clean it and re do it. After I had it in pieces i did wash it with soap and water just taking care of not scrubbing the greased parts, since they will remain just ok because grease and water don't mix. ;) Piece of advise in the process... 1. Do not attempt to take away the thickness handle, just unscrew the side. The plate, once open, will hold the rollers, the same for the cutter attachment, the rest can be reduced to its bare pieces... 2. Dry your pieces, cloth, hair dryer... 3. The hard part is to re-assemble the roller/cutter again because you have to sandwich at the same time both plates, rods, etc. , but with a little of gentle patience that is doable, I did it in between 5 to 7 minutes for the roller machine and 7 to 12 minutes for the cutter... that because I didn't realize at first that the wide (tagliatelle) cutters' gears don't rest at the same level than the other pair

No offense, this is questionable. So when you dust flour all over the rollers to make your pasta (Respectfully, I am not sure why you put clay through a pasta machine???? You are putting a non-edible substance in a machine intended to make food). Back to the original inquiry - when you dust flour on you rollers (which is needed to make your pasta not stick), and you have bits of flour in the rollers - the machine is never this clean. So what do you do when you are done making pasta? Thats what Im looking for. Thanks for showing me this can be used for clay too. Thank you for your video.
