We owned our own fireplace company for almost 20 years, so we're EXTREMELY familiar with cleaning chimneys, and seeing house fires from the amount of creosote you have there. Besides not burning pine in your stoves, one thing I recommend is a more efficient cleaner. We use the CLLVGOKD Chimney Sweep kit. You can get it off Amazon. You use a hand drill and it spins and "sweeps" everything clean. The wire one you're using will ruin stainless steel and we always recommended against using them. Good job cleaning! We just did ours this week. Ugh! Such a dirty job! But so worth having wood heat!

I remember waking up to the aroma of breakfast while on vacation here when we were growing up. Granny started her woodstove 4:00 a.m. every morning. My Sister & I, our bedroom was off of the kitchen, next to where my Brothers slept. I think we were the 1st 4 to join Grandpaul at the table. Then Dad & Mom slowly rolled out of bed & joined us. Homemade biscuits, sausage, bacon, gravy, creamy oatmeal, cream, milk, scrambled eggs, butter, grape jelly, King syrup, coffee. Breakfast stuck with you all day. It was the best. All food coming off the woodstove was the best! Grandpaul kept a woodstove going in the living room too. We often found him on the porch swing in the dead of Winter 'cause it got too hot in the living room. I never knew what was all envolved with upkeep in a woodstove other than stocking wood, cleaning the ashes out. I went to invite a neighbor to come eat with us. The sight of him when he answered the door, I blurted out " Oh, are you trying out for a part in Mary Poppins as a Chimney Sweeper"? Thank you for showing how you clean a woodstove, & pellet stove.

One job I hated as a kid helping to clean up after Dad and Grandpa cleaned the wood stoves. Great idea with the plastic bag, we didn't have them growing up. We used gunny sacks or feed bags to catch the mess then sweep up and mopped up. I don't miss the cold weather at all, high today 82 in RGV TX. We do have cold fronts, but not the below zero you have.

Great job cleaning the wood stove and the pellet stove. I had both, when I had my home, so I know how to clean both. My late husband never had to do those jobs, as he was much older than I, and was unable to physically do it. Plus, he was a financier for GE company, and his job was always wearing a suit and tie. I did all the appliance maintenance, but had to phone the propane folks for my kitchen stove, as neither of us had that knowledge. In my first marriage, (where I had the 9 children) I did gardening, canning, household duties, chopped and split wood, and had to work outside the home, as ‘he lacked energy’, if you get my drift. Aaron, great job cleaning both stoves….. Jessica, you have what it takes to apply elbow grease to the cook stove. I used to apply stove blackening to my stove…..it worked great. Have you ever made brown bread on stovetop, while you had beans baking at the same time? Topped off with apple pie for dessert, it’s a very typical Saturday night meal, here in Maine. Of course, home made biscuits and Cole slaw and pickles topped off the meal! I really enjoyed this vlog…..find them very interesting…..must admit, I wish I was back doing it. I truly miss those days. Hugs, Bev in Maine

We could get the logs you can’t use them in the wood Cookstove. I’m told anyway. Because the stove pipe is not over the fire box. And that’s what causes the build up.

What a day of dirty, but crucially needed, work! Creosote is so dangerous. A couple of houses ago we had a fireplace insert. Annually cleaned by a chimney sweep, but it managed to have two chimney fires and once caught the roof on fire! Glad that chore is done until spring! Keep warm up there. Until our next visit. ❤️ Momma G

Oh that’s so scary. We had no idea how much worse wood Cookstove are. And no one talks about it. It’s the design that allows the smoke to cool before it hits the pipe. So the maintenance is so much more. I’m glad you made it out or where would we be!

What a chore, but good you can still clean them yourselves. I live in Australia and have a combustion wood heater that we use in the winter. We are in our early 60's and we now have to get a chimney sweep in to clean out the flue and that is quite expensive. We only use dry red gum or blue gum wood. The creasote doesn't build up as much as yours. By the way I absolutely love Roberto he is such a loyal dog and loves his dad.

Great job guys. James always saves a couple of the heavy bags the pellets come into use to put under the chimney when cleaning, they works so good. Your stove will burn so much better with less smoke now that it’s clean. Sadly sometimes we can’t just have a straight run in our chimneys and the more angles, the more it slows down the smoke. But I know you can’t always avoid it. Love that stove, can’t wait to get mine. Cheers ❄️🇨🇦❄️

Congratulations. And yet again a very interesting video. We do not have a woodstove and heat our house and water with central heating on gas (very expensive now in Europe) . Our house is not build to have any other kind of heating but it is allways good to learn what there is out there. Looks like a messy job but very necessary. Wel done.

Congratulations on your 1 year anniversary! I know I say this a lot, but it’s true. Your family is awesome! Handy, knowledgeable, hardworking men are worth their weight in gold! I say this as a single older woman who can’t find anyone to hire to do things I can’t do, so I truly admire Aaron and how y’all are raising your kids. ❤️

Thanks Jessica. What an interesting video. I had no idea of how much work it is to maintain your heat for your home. And the cook stove, WOW. Loved watching Aaron and the boys carefully clean out the stack. Great job everyone. Hugs love and prayers for you and your beautiful family from St Petersburg Florida. Jessica, you are looking great since your accident. Keep up the good work. ❤❤❤❤❤

I love your striped stocking cap! With your braid, it looks like a perfect Christmas elf hat! I love hats and caps but living in Texas limits me to mainly baseball caps or cowboy hats. 😆

Looks like outr house when cleaning out our stoves and pipes.. we clean out the front of our pellet stove (pot and ash pan area) everyday. Then vacuum at least twice a week. Our full cleaning and taking it apart is every ton/ pallet of pellets.
