This makes me so mad. I buy an “ultimate gun cleaning kit” and go to youtube to figure out what to do with it; only to realize that i need to buy all this other stuff and nothing i needed was in the kit. Not even the right size brushes for my rifle (7mm). I guess it serves me right.

9 minutes on how to clean a barrel? So you clean the barrel and put her away, without cleaning the bolt? I'm glad I know how to clean my weapons. Lots of noobs out there that just learned the wrong way.

+C Spradlin I agree with you. I just got my 700 and knew right away I think differently than these guys. I totally disagreed with this info right off the bat.

I just inherited one of these. I know your comments on this are old but what would you do different? Maybe suggest a better video? Thanks.

This talk about getting better accuracy from a slightly dirty barrel seems wrong. I don’t know for sure that it is wrong, but it just sounds wrong compared to conventional wisdom, and even modern wisdom from precision shooters.

A completely clean barrel will often shoot to a different point of impact. You will see more consistency between shots 2 through say 50, than you will between shots 1 (completely clean) and 2. If you sight in your rife and make adjustments with say 5 or 10 shots, if you now clean it and take it hunting, your first shot, the one that counts, will often hit to a different point of impact. Why? That little bit of fouling (mostly carbon) affects the bore. Best practice is to go hunting with a slightly fouled (say 5 or more shots since clean) barrel. Even better, is to confirm point of impact with a completely cool barrel and ammo, at the same temperature you intend to hunt at.
