How these things affect the ability to parent is a huge deal. Which is why veteran parents with service connected disabilities deserve every compensation awarded to them. Being able to focus on self and family instead of finances is critical to familial stability ❤

I am a stay at home parent, and my DBQ provider said that I’ve never missed work due to my back pain because I don’t have a job. Can’t imagine that didn’t affect the rating decision.

I 2nd this notion. I was low rated for my PTSD initially because I held down a job. In today's economy, I simply have to. The struggle to parent and work as I deal with escalating PTSD symptoms is immensely challenging. I was one of the first female Marines in Afghan in 2010 as we did the push. I saw and endured so much man and I can't keep it together most days. I just went in for an increase after 10 years being 50%. The C and P examiner asked me such basic questions-- to include if I am working...... I answered honestly and hate that my answer may low rate me again when I very much rate 100% for PTSD according to the criteria. I need help, need reassuring words, anything will do. Should I be concerned?

Secondary’s for mental health… Insomnia, Generalized Anxiety disorder, Chronic fatigue disorder, alcohol use disorder, Bruxism, TMJ, Major Depressive Disorder, on her back, if she has any form of numbness or loss of sensation whether constant or intermittent, she may have a claim for peripheral neuropathy. Shin splints are a rateable condition, so are Calcaneal bone spurs

I'm a fellow female Veteran. I only recently got diagnosed with IIH that causes migraines. As well as got a lot of MRA, MRI, and the likes that show evidence of migraines. With an in service incident in the army where I passed out in formation, was suffering black mold exposure in the barracks, and despite fellow soldiers attempt to help. They dropped me right on my head and unfortunately I was still slightly conscious and my mood might have become more erratic after. I hadn't even been deployed! So if I wasn't already having issues before now got migraines. Took me ten years to even learn this is a thing I can get compensation for. So hoping now that I got a diagnosis and Lab work showing evidence of migraines, fingers crossed. As it been ten years and made a personal statement, taking medicine for the IIH as well as pain medicines. I'm also seeking increase in MH, but those reasons are a lot more... unpleasant to talk about. I too would cry when talking about MH so this is going to be fun.

I'm going to watch this about 5 times to shore up my claims. Biggest issue I ran Into is the Reviewer being confused on my Service dates. I was in the Reserves from 1996 to 2015. I was SplitOp for Basic and AIT And that produced 2 DD 214's. I had 3 Deployments that produced 2 DD 214's, 1 AGR tour which had 1 of the Deployments and produced a DD214, and a stateside deployment of 2 years which produced a DD214. So instead of seeing 18 years of service they totaled it to about 8. Which greatly hurts any chance of a through review. So now I'm trying to correct it with a supplemental but I think I may have to file a HLR to consider the mistakes made in relation to denials back in 2014. It's a huge headache and heightens my Anxiety and Deepens my depression dealing with it daily mentally, emotionally, and physically. Your videos are such a great help

I have just been prescribed Sumatriptan 50mg for migraines myself this past month and am at 90%. I am awaiting the VA to rule on an increase on my sinusitis from 10 to 30 percent along with hypertension. Maybe I need to write a personal statement myself for migraines as I was denied before even though I have evidence during my time in service over 20 years. Thanks for the great information.

I’m glad this helps! In your case, service-connection becomes more important. You realllly gotta look at your migraines and how to rope them to service (with evidence) or as a secondary (with evidence). As for your MH claim…I would recommend you gather evidence showing cause for 50/70% (I’ll link the same video I sent this veteran at the bottom). Once you have the evidence, submit that with a supplemental claim. This assumes your supplemental is within 1yr of the decision for your 30% MH. 70% symptoms: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/beCSariXvq7Ik2Q.htmlsi=n3Kao3-53Yt6G4zp - Clay

So I got MH back in August 2023. With the scripts you get, I started getting side effects of Migraines. I then filed in September 2023 for migraines. I was awarded 30% for Migraines (even though I feel like it should be higher but it’s still points on the board) I’m going to file for a supplemental for MH and circle back to migraines this year. I still log my migraines on my log and take 100mg of Sumatriptan. And I also take 100mg of prophylaxis Topiramate.
