Rent an ATV with sked or trailer for a week to haul trash and junk out and haul construction materials in. Don't bury it.

You're going to want your bed elevated from the floor, especially when winter hits. Unless the crawl space has been insulated, the floor will be the coldest part of the house.

I don’t know what the regulations are in Canada for burning things! But, here in the USA we would salvage the cabinets and 2x4’s & then burn everything else instead of burying it! As for the mattresses if you burn them then all that will be left is the springs inside of them! Like others have mentioned beforehand your first priority should be getting access to the property! If you’re on a budget then you need to think outside of the box when it comes to junking everything that was left behind! It’s called repurposing stuff to get a different use out of things that will fulfill your tight budget! Try to salvage as much of the drywall that you can because that would be cumbersome to haul back into the cabin & that doesn’t burn! I look forward to following along with you and Dobby!

Job one is to get you a road to the property to allow you to bring supplies up by your van. Great Job.

I would invest in a cheap off road vehicle to haul things back and forth to the van.

We have a cabin in the woods off grid so I understand the work involved. We’ve owned it since 2009. We started living in it 6 months of the year. In the winter we go every other weekend because the only access is by snowmobile. We run everything by solar, back up generator. We now have running water, RV pump 12 volt. Our water comes from our brook behind the cabin that we pump into a 300g tote. We also just got starlink, good to have for rainy days and emergencies. We also put a garden in with a small greenhouse a few years ago. I love your property, it’s going to be so much fun getting it where you want it to be. I look forward watching you future videos. You Need a 4wheeler and trailer. Dry wall is heavy. How far is it to your van? Some no trespassing signs at the head of your trail might be better than waiting for all these individual groups to pull up.

Make sure to wear a mask when removing the fiberglass insulation. Good job so far! I’d salvage whatever wood you can!

You've done a lot of work. My thought is you need to prioritze access. Get a dirt road done up at least so you can get the van up there so you can remove stuff to the local dump (if there is one) and bring in supplies.

I love your spirit of adventure. A agree that you need to get an ATV to help you shuttle things in and out. The "tail" looks like it used to be a road. With some reinforcing in places I think you could drive in there. Good luck.

when you said bury that stuff, my heart sank. I can’t imagine doing that to the precious environment. Maybe focus on road access like others have said so you can get supplies in and junk out. Also reconsider reusing some of those ‘junk’ items.

good advice would be bundles of roxul insulation ,mices do not like it ,water and fire proof , borax powder sprinkle in bottom of walls to keep mouse away .

I don’t know what your plans are, but it looks like you’ve tossed a lot of potentially useful stuff. Do you plan on opening a road access, otherwise that’s a major amount of hauling to bring in everything on your back. Are you going to live there permanently? How far is it to town?

Ok wow you cleared out that place like a mother. Don't know why you burning some of that stuff. Those two cabinets you took off the wall are built better than those shelves in bedroom. The wood chairs can be cleaned and painted. I DO NOT like the idea of burying all that stuff. There has to be a better way. Reuse as much as you can for indoors or outdoor uses for the future. Once you get a road to the cabin you can haul out all the junk to be properly junked. Of course I don't know where your at or how far you are from a township. You may have to leave all the junk for next year. Winter is closing in and you need to focus on fixing the cabin. I think you could learn a few things for another Canadian who took the same road you did to the east coast a year ago. His cabin was just like yours when he started. He has been very resourceful with what he has managed to do on a very limited budget. He still has a way to go but I think he will be able to live in it this winter. Strip the mattresses you can burn the fabric. Then use the metal frame in your garden to grow tomatoes or beans that need support

I love that blue trunk. Absolutely love it - here in Europe we don't have everywhere boasting with those old steamer trunks and I just love them.. I love chests, cheast tables.. love them. you saying you want to make a planter out of it .. Also burying random trash in the land is ew. When you left the cabin at the end the first big puddle is it on your land ? There is leaning dead (?) tree in the frame with it, I would just make a band-aid bridge with the leaning tree. Also here we have these.. "duck boards" they are called in English. Two or three splitted trees or thick planks over few cross supports acting as legs - we have those going over wast swamps and wet lands. The first band aid bridge I mentioned earlier.. :)

I would burn the mattresses as they are just fabric over metal and if their is a single their when you burn the fabric off you will be left with a spring I use the spring to drag threw the snow to make a hard packed trial obviously I have a snow machine but if you pick up a four wheeler you can pull it behind that. Just make sure that if your getting a foot of snow drag every four inches or you will not be able to pull the spring!

I would work on the road , get some signs up get your van up there and get a 4x 4 jeep and a trailer to al trash out at end of driveway to actually road you should have a dumpster deliver why contaminated your area with trash .

It's pretty much a rebuild top to bottom. I wouldn't trust that structure in a major storm. A great find. Give all that stuff to goodwill.

New subscriber here, I have two questions. If you could please answer, I’m so curious, how far is the van from the cabin? Are you worried about anybody stealing anything from the van? Do you think you’ll ever be able to fix the dirt road so you could drive the van up to the cabin? And what do you do about fleas or ticks getting on your dog?

I'm interested in your progress with this cabin; it should be an adventure. I am a little disappointed that you are just making a garbage dump, or will bury the junk that can't be burned. Is there no way to haul this stuff out, on an UTV with a trailer? PS, I think that red metal bunk bed frame (we had one for our son) would be a nice set of shelves for storage. Maybe not now, but down the road.
