Welcome back to another Liveration video! In this episode we speak to Steph, who chose alternative living from as soon as she could leave home, she shares her journey of how she came to be living in a box truck, as well all the other alternative ways she lived prior to that, including being horse drawn!
Steph is crafty and thrifty, and therefore managed to convert her once empty box truck, in the cosy, unique, homely, creative home she has now, for only £500!!!! So DEFINITELY stick around for the full inside tour, as Steph demonstrates how you can keep costs as low as possible, and you wouldn't believe all the things she keeps in the van! it's not your usual fit out, that's for sure!....
We hope you like the video! As always.... we love to hear your thoughts, so let us know what you think in the comments below.
A big thanks to Steph for sharing her story with us and giving us a great tour around her self converted van.
Make sure to give Steph a follow....

The people I interact with in the community on my travels are the nicest people, we have little in life but a semblance of happiness with the small things, and make the most fantastic human connections with others. It's not always easy to get by but the joy found from life easily out weighs the tough times.

The new freedom camping law in NZ is ridiculous. How the heck I'm going to replace my neat small potter loo (not stored under the bed) with a cassette one (they all need more floor space ), I don't know? Plus the cost. I've camped, tramped and cycled off and on all my life. I don't leave rubbish or poos behind. It's amazing how far you can walk or cycle to find a loo when you need one.PlusvI always carried a poo stick to carry solids out) A porta potty was a huge step up. And I realize what we did when I was younger is not sustainable these days. Just the numbers of people, make digging a hole in our environment not good. But... Come on why do governments tar responsible people with the same brush of the irresponsible. Those people will continue to do there ''entitled selfish behaviours'' I recently spotted a person in a huge (for NZ) RV emptying their black water down the bank of a road in the country. I didn't realise what they were doing. It was only later when I returned down the road I smelt and looked down the bank at the stream of toilet paper etc. 😢

Coming up to 4 years fulltime vanlife myself this simpler life has been the best thing for mental health and the pocket because you live in a tiny space, you don’t accumulate junk so you stop wasting money. I use to feed my depression with buying clothes, I no longer have that need. You also don’t care about keeping up with trends and maybe get a thicker skin but worry less about what others think of you. Gosh if everyone could experience this lifestyle for even just a while I think we’d have kinder more accepting communities. I’m never going back to a house, I will die traveling and until then enjoy this beautiful lifestyle.

Good on you for not being forced back into the everyday house, mortgage and all the trappings that keep you under the gov’s thumb. Only reason they are against it is they can’t get loads of money from you. You are much happier than a lot of people I know who have huge homes with draining jobs taking up most of their waking hours, and huge debts to live a lifestyle they the think they should have, making them miserable, and looking forward to retirement. 😮 life is for living and you’re doing it great. Hello luv, at 60 (currently 67) I found my 'if only'....A 2005 30 ft, sleeps 9 camper to go with my 2005 F-150. Can't afford to rent anywhere, a widow twice, divorced once, living on less than 1,000 a month. I needed a place I could call home. Not allowing anyone to tell me what was and wasn't acceptable...for me and my pets. I do well on my own. Not like I have a choice, I'm the only one left of my family. So if it's to be, it's up to me. Quite likely I'm in better health now than when I was 30. This young woman living as she chooses.. I say kudos to you luv!! A lovely lady and great to see her dogs get pride of place in her life and her world. True love both ways. We all have the opportunity to make these choices at a point in life when we have nothing, but not all are brave enough to take the leap of faith. It's still a big step. A step that governments and people should respect as not everyone has the choice. I left home in a recession hit Ireland at 17 with a rucksack on my back and some money in my pocket, taking a one way boat ride to England. It was tough for many years, no back-up, and no family close by. Basic single room apartments for years without heating. It makes you stronger, hard and street wise. It's amazing how resilient we are when times get tough and what we actually need.

@user-jd7md1mx2u
@user-jd7md1mx2u 18 күн бұрын
@@katherinestevens6528 I did in the past drive long distances. Today my life is very different. My family live in the UK where we have a small holding full of rescue Alpacas, Goats, Geese, Sheep, Horses, Dogs, Cats, Chickens and Peacocks, plus others. I on the other hand, have lived out of a suitcase and have worked abroad for the last twenty five years. Poland, Lithuania, Morocco, Turkey, Sri Lanka, China and Vietnam. I have for want of a better word become a global nomad. You cannot believe how good it is to live in the middle of nowhere in the UK working with the animals, who absolutely love us, keeping the place fixed up, for the brief times in the year when I am there. So whilst I don't drive long distances in the real sense of the word, I do have itchy feet and have seen and lived in many different cultures and countries. We are not rich financially, but we are richly rewarded in what we can give back to our family and rescue animals and the way they react and respond to us. We cannot take what we have put together with us when we leave this world and hope our children will continue the animal rescue we have set up after we have gone. This is as close to living off grid as we have got with our three children and extended animal rescue family and we love it. Believe me when I say we live close to nature and have life long bonds when it comes to living with the animals, hand rearing and recovering sick animals in the kitchen and any other room when required.

It's only a few years since some startup company offered to provide £3000 (I think) temporary homes - barely more than enhanced garden sheds, but complete with bed, table, tiny cooker and shower. Assembled in a factory, and delivered to site on flatbed. Homeless problem solved, if not at a stroke, at least on a budget. But councils decided they were 'unfit for habitation.' No doubt in my mind, palms had been crossed with silver by the building lobby. The bizarre idea that a homeless person might be better off in a shop doorway than in one of those units shows how far this country has sunk.

Really enjoyed that. LOVE the soul and spirit of the guys prepared and brave enough to do this, must be extremely liberating. Reminds me of the late 80s to Mid 90s with the Travellers and “Crusties” we knew, far better times when we all felt FREE. She’s great.

Weather this is England or the United States, rents are too high for the working poor, or lower middle class. No one wants the homeless in there back yard. This wonderful lady is not homeless at all. Wake-up she is showing UK government I can’t afford apartment or flat. I have my home on wheels.❤❤❤

Love your set up!. Connecting to the elements & keeping it simple is the best!. I've been 7 years as a UK van dweller. Adrian Flux Motorhome Insurance as a self build is a peace of mind as no issues whatsoever informing them of a wood burner in the van, added windows, bike rack etc!. ❤

It's all the bare necassities we really need. Not the things they tell us we would. Longing for simplicity and the raw life. Feeling where food, water and heat come from and having the right to create a healthier life for me and the planet. I plan to start a similar lifestyle in the next years. Send my love to the beautiful countryside of the UK!

What a lovely home you have! It kind of reminds me of a pioneer home. :) There is a pioneer village near where I live. And people from the community portray the parts of the different people that live in the village. It's very very neat, and your home reminds me of this. Love the writing desk, rocking chair, and spinning wheel. Now you just need a tabletop loom! You are so clever, self-reliant, and have such good energy. You are living a wonderful life, sort of a traveling artist life, in my opinion. I travel around in my car and do music for the elderly. I'm in my car a lot. And I have set it up in a simple way that works for me. I'm in my car about 8 hours a day, in my condo about 8 hours a day, and sleep in the condo 8 hours a day. On Friday nights, I just stay up all night in the car go grocery and toiletry shopping in the morning, and then travel home. I go to bed sometime between 4:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. and I'm up about noon, 1:00 or 2:00 p.m. And this is what fits me. It's much calmer and quieter late at night, so that's when I am up and about, and in the world in my car, for the most part. This helps my nerves. I start my day when most people are ending their day. This is what works for me. People are not cookie cutter people. Everyone is different. And the world and society should allow for people to live in the way that fits them. That is the secret, IMHO. You must know your life purpose, and you must make your life fit you. The fact that people need so many substances (cigarettes, alcohol, vaping, nerve pills, sleeping pills, you name it) is testament that something is not right in our world. If so many have to depend on all these substances just to cope, then that really tells us something. I learned long ago that the secret is to make your life fit you, so you can cope, follow your life purpose, and do here on Earth what you came to do. And the world should allow that and encourage it. But it does not. The world is all about greed, consuming, money, power, etcetera. Anyway, these are my thoughts. You are a lovely young lady with a wonderful life and home. I send you good thoughts, prayers, and wish for you blessings and every good thing! :)

I stopped watching van tours that had white interiors long ago. While I live in a sprinter van, built by me and no white anywhere was my design brief to myself haha, so I tend to watch if they are skoolies not vans in the USA for inspiration. I guess the #vanlife just made them trendy and not true travelers were building during COVID and wanted there house in a van but it’s missing the point. There a US guy that does van tours and most are pro builds - they bore me and I’ve boycotted his channel .. haha

I loved this insight to her life. I'm really envious of her freedom 😇😍 Could see her thrive even more with a small plot of land - and a nice vegetable garden to put down some roots. That the sprinter only cost so little is 🤯. If you have little money you tend to choose the options that last longer, can be repaired... The old wood furniture looks great also - a lot of character. I do think we need people outside of normal society - that challenge our believes and the way we are used to do things. I'm not sure if a majority of people could live this way, but we can definitely implement some philosophies.
