I live in Kansas and I use to go on vacation to Colorado frequently. All along the highway I could see farmland having the same things done. Bulldozers, belly scrapers and excavators digging up stumps, using rippers, etc on big acreage to prepare the fields. Many of those farms have been sold and are all grown up with trees and weeds again. Such a shame!

That little garden tractor does a pretty good job

You make it look so easy. Also know it takes a lot of concentration to take off just the bad material. I saw on stoney ridge farmer where he switched out his farm tractor seat for a cylinder cushioning seat for about a $100. You even said the dozer is rough to ride and wondering if it would be worthwhile to change out dozer seat for a more comfortable seat. Don't know about longevity, but he's 6' 5", a pretty big guy. Thanks for sharing.

Been watching a few of your videos as they come up on my suggestions, i find excavators and earth movers intersting, used to wotk at a factory where we made cutting edges for cat dozers, also we repaired all kinds of excavator buckets, really interesting videos, keep up the good work Do like the long reaches you operate, one of the first of your videos i watched was where you were scraping weeds out of a pond with the long reach 👍

We scrapped out an old "new ground disc" a few yrs ago - would have been perfect for this.. blades were 36" in dia.. 5/8" thick and SHARP.. it was 10 ft wide- and built very heavy- took a D6 to pull it.. it cut easy about a foot deep, and would roll out any stumps less than a foot in dia, split most of the rest... Old farmer would run it 3 times a year for two years, then he could plow and plant.. I think the brand was Rome- but I may be mistaken...

Same as always, people should do it right in the first place, it just ends up costing twice as much.

I've done a lot of clearing for farmers and 90 percent of the time it's behind loggers which is a mess and usually is grower up like this too. If you catch it in winter you can burn it off before you clear but then you and every filter there is stays so full of ashes. Jus adds to the irritation of hitting hidden stumps and getting he'll beat out of you all day. TBE rome disc works good but they hang up w stumps if there are a lot of them.good video. That kind of clearing is a pain

Question:- why don’t they rip the stumps out when they are felling the trees and then have clear ground to re-plant or turn into farm land ?

I've ran a lil bit of everything, a dozer just isn't one I have. Papa had an old allis chalmer track loader when I was a little feller. Guess that's kind of the same. Good video.

Looks like for a mere few millions you could get a Komatsu D575A that would love to level the land!

Mulching definitely has it place, a small place. I owned a FAE attached to a 100hp skid steer and it was a workout for the skid. I have a Komatsu PC 200 LC-6 now and would much rather clear with it. Im a little partial to the Komatsu’s but those Volvo’s are some jam up machines. That’s a good all around dozer. Great videos.

I feel your pain man, those make for long days! It’s so aggravating running on stumps or rocks. Just beats you to death!

You cut the trees, clear the stumps, then mulch the whole mess. The contractor before you botched the job he was hired to clear a field for a farm and left stumps in place to break plows. About the only thing that will get that done quickly is a forestry plow and an excavator, which is sorta what you are doing. Unearting stumps with the dozer and sorting them and the roots out with the excavator.

My JD 450G can pretty easily knock over a 20" butt pine with some root prep and can knock over a 10" pine with a straight push. But a fresh 4" gum stump will stop it dead in its tracks.All about leverage. What you're dealing with is just a sucky task: but you're getting it done. Commenters saying bring in a dragline? or a D-9 blah,blah,blah: for a 2 acre job?! If owner doesn't get a plow onto it followed by a disc(probably multiple times) he'll have the same mess in a couple of years.Roots go deep and trash will keep coming back:especially gum trees and pin oak.

I’ve done the same with a large skid steel and a tooth bucket, just takes a little longer, but enough time and it all drys out enough to burn it all

Good idea when clearing a field for crops is to first burn the existing flora.. then do the clearing.. that way you also burn the seeds.. 😀😄😁

Looks like a job for a raker blade, and maybe some ripper sub-soilers on the back. I bust a Ransomes plough on just a 3 inch root one year.

Yo, ur good. I have said it before. But are you open to suggestions? When I bought our property here north of Taos, NM> I rented a 10000 lb skid steer with a brush grapple. I have a river rocky 10 acres here covered with 3 inch and up sage brush. I did about 3 acres clearing in a day. It hurt, but not as bad as you are hurting after this. I just wonder why you didn't use ur track steer with a grapple to plow this stuff? I am learning still at 59 years old and always want to know a better way.

I would of use a dozer rake teeth on it, they rip up roots, rocks, stumps! That they use to make a golf area with!

For jobs like this have you ever thought about getting a forestry tiller? A farmer in my area has one and it will bust up 18 inch tree stumps rocks you name it, it will go down 12 inches deep and turn it into powder, a job like this would take him 2-4 hours to do with one guy

That whole job could have been done with a D9 dozer. Just run through with the ripper, pull up the stumps the blade it all off.

I'm not 100% sure but the very first little bit he pushed looked like a big weed plant lol.

They do make a sub soil mulcher that would grind all that in the ground

you know down here in South Georgia they use the root rake a lot to do what you're doing today just something to think about talk to you later

That sucks, hes getting rid of some good topsoil along with the over growth, thata nice organic soil that will take years to get back, he should've done it right the first time I guess, but we all have our problems, maybe he just didnt have the money at the time or something, if he s going to farm that part hes going to need that good dirt, oh well, got to do what you got to do I guess

You've got to be thankful for hydraulics, that amount of control over the blade wouldn't be possible without them.

Mulch with a sub soiler and it would be way better than the mulching job that was done before

If I was the land owner, I would have had someone come in with a forestry cutter (mower) and cut all that mess down to ground lever, then have you guys come in and stump it. He could have drastically cut down on the amount of trash that had to be hauled off just by cutting it all down, real fine, to ground level!

I would have used a root rake, then go through and get stumps with excavator, then grade and disk. The dozer blade generates way to much dirt. And with out the dirt you could burn it later.

Should I rent a 100 hp bulldozer or a 19000 pounds excavator to clear 17 acres? Which one pull's or pushes stumps better.? Also I have to burn it so the excavators can make a burn pit?.....Can a bull dozer grade down a pit too? What I'm worried about is the time the dozer is 2100 USA dollars, and the excavators 1800. I'm getting them from Sunbelt rentals. It's was cut over for lumber but they lied about clean up after the harvest.there are loose trees and limps that are a huge fire hazard.

Definitely has been a lot of improvements with forestry implements that can be attached to excavators, bulldozers, skid steers and even plows behind a farm tractor that would clear the land all the way down removing the stumps and turning the land into farm land Also, we don't remove debris from the property if a land owner has a forest tree line all material is ran thru a grinder then mulcher that throws the land debris into the forest making nutrients soil for the forest even sometimes putting a make shift roll of wood debris pile for animal shelters for rabbits and other wildlife Some states even require these measures in order to clear the land a percentage of debris to be left for wildlife, improvements to the soil ,even planting trees along forest lines These measures have increased wildlife and healthy forest In my area of the country these measurements have been taken due to so much land clearing for housing developments, hardly no forest for wildlife to live due to the housing developments I'm a conservative Republican and I definitely agree with these measures to perserve wildlife in my area of the country, actually these measures were a Republican idea, the Demonrats idea to perserve wildlife would have been detrimental to the wildlife due to them not having the forethought to think things thru from A to Z just like all of their worthless ideas

I was Trying to Explain to her just how MUCH it Does Hurt . . 3:15 . . to run up on, or Back up on a STUMP in the woods, Goes right up your Tailbone as if you fell back on Concrete....!! 😵😩👎 I had cleared with old D-6’s, mid 70’s, Mt Olive, Fason, Goldsboro NC area, Earnest Tailor first, then Rex Whitfield.....
