Considering how long it takes to make demi-glace, it's understandable. He could have used gravy and you wouldn't have known any better (unless you were eating it).

he's getting a lot of hate but personally I LOVE that he did such a simple take because this is all about how we can try to make it ourselves, demystify, non-intimidating, this result feels feasible whereas you watch the other one and it's like "yep leave it all to the masters"

Lots of people in the comments clearly didn't listen to him in the video he said he was just going to make a basic fried rice because the eggs were the part he wanted to try and get also this takes years of practice and he got fairly close in 3 tries relax people hes just showing us that it's achievable at home by any regular Joe with some basic cooking skills

The omurice thats been trending around is really just a fancy version. The one cliff did was incredibly great for having less than a day to attempt.

It might be the fact that Cliff isn't really doing a standard Omurice. He's going for the Kichi Kichi Omurice, which is quite a few levels of difficulty higher than a normal Omurice.

Japan refined the basic French-style omelette for it to become this perfectly shaped encased scrambled egg. I make these at work for my free meals. As our head chef was trained to make these and he offered to teach me how and the concept really comes with the shape and the seal. Definitely better than my first tries but try fold the omelette closer to the edge, angle the pan more steeper, and maybe a bit less oil as too much and overcook some of the egg. Definitely a great watch and I hope this comment reaches out to you guys before the next time you make another omelette.

But when someone is billed as a "culinary whiz" yet has no idea even how to make a basic omelet... false advertising. And don't even get me started on the "fried rice..."

Than maybe he should have got some experience making this dish before he made a video. I understand that he is new at it, but you can't hardly call his kitchen a test kitchen when a person is so inexperience. And I mean he was really green. But in time he will get good with the Omurice which require a lot of skill and concentration. I hope he comes back and make another video sometime in the future.

You need to crack 3 eggs then Add a pinch of salt Then you strain it You put it on optimal heat level then pour egg Then you wisk and go around 4-5 times until you notice lighter color change You tilt it forward and shape it in like a taco shell shape and them you flip one half to the other And Bon Appetite

The rice definitely needs to be sticky and then broken up in the skillet with a spatula. I didn't like the looks of the rice either because it wasn't sticking together and didn't look done enough. He may have rinse the hell out of it with cold water too which would remove too much of the starch.

to the overlyloyal viewers, there was a huge huge mistake he made consistently due to not watching the video clearly enough. when forming the omelette, you flip the near side about halfway closed. you want it to start to look like an omelette. that way when you flip, the omelette seals like an envelope and lands on the seam, sealing it entirely. he probably could have done 20% better if he had done this. but all things considered he did really good and I'd say he got a 50%. halfway to perfection.

Funny how Cliff makes a disclaimer about replicating something that "a master has done everyday of his life for years and years and years in a matter of minutes." So if he nails it, he's truly a culinary wiz (hey I did not make that up, that's what Eater put on the description), but if he doesn't then he has a way out. Hahaha Seriously though, there wasn't any effort put into replicating the rice in the Kichi Kichi version. Yes, it's not as famous as the omelette, but it is called Omu (for omelette) - Rice (for well, rice). If he watched the Tasty video when the producers actually went to Japan, he would pick up some things as there is an English explanation for the steps.
