Carl Perkins tells the story of how he was inspired to write the lyrics for Blue Suede Shoes. He was a great rockabilly artist, guitarist, songwriter and singer/performer. It's well documented that the bad car accident he had was a bad moment in his career interrupting his success. Elvis covered many artists songs and is considered the first rockabilly artist, but Carl Perkins had a lot of talent and wrote some of the most memorable and greatest rockabilly tunes.
