The fact that Floor had only been with Nightwish for 10 months by this point & technically wasn’t official (that was in October 2013), her stage presence at the concert is nothing short of extraordinary. She absolutely nails every song in this set-list

Our 1.83m Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen is the third and present singer of Nightwish and widely considered the best and most versatile female singer of our time, yet undiscovered by a broad audience. As I am a Flooraholic from Utrecht, The Netherlands, here is some more background information on her. She joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. My favourite song is 'Energize Me'. They made a very beautiful music video out of this. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. Later she did a year Conservatory to learn some more classical singing. 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song, such as from full operatic to serious growls in seconds. The songs 'Disdain' and 'Wild Card' are good examples. During this time Floor also did vocal coaching and as Floor is a perfectionist she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the American Tour as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour ('Please learn the setlist in 48 hours'). The lyrics of the songs of Nightwish are very poetic and the music as a whole is challenging, but Floor pulled it off and she stayed for the whole world tour, culminating in this iconic Wacken 2013 Open Air festival which set new standards in open air concerts. It was obvious that the match Nightwish and Floor Jansen was made in Walhalla, so she became a permanent member of the band in 2013 as the relationship with Annette and the band was strained even before she became ill. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp' for a couple of years, but it became clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so Revamp disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died' is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on KZfaq. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe, watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa'. And to see her in full opera mode watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered KZfaq in the last year and uploaded many interesting videos on her channel. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself performing this song at Wacken. Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a soprano with a range of more than three octaves (D3 to F6). When listening to her sing, it is apparent that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres and is a vocal coach herself. It is incredible how she is able to take any song and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet. I'm a Nightwish fan who also listens to (mostly 90's) hiphop. It's good to not get 'stuck' in one genre. There's so much good music in so many different genres. You'd miss out.

Nightwish is one of a kind! They incorporate so many different genres of music and they take their fans to realms no one else has been before! You got it with "This is on another level" and recognising Floor's total control of that 82,000 strong audience! And remember these are a festival crowd, not (at least initially) all fans of theirs. Yes, Wacken is a metal festival, but that spans quite a broad range - Alice Cooper had immediately preceded them on the other main stage (they alternate stages to keep the music flowing while the band's crew set up). Smaller stages around the site too, but Nightwish, as headliners, had the benefit of exclusivity, with no competing shows. This song was over an hour into their set, the 13th of 15 songs in the 90-minute show. The backing is recorded by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, London's Metro Voices, and London Young Musicians Childrens' Choir, to Tuomas' score, directed by Pip Williams. Unfortunately, actually touring with that many musicians is impractical from both a logistical and financial perspective, but we all hope that maybe, one day, there will be a special event where they play with a live orchestra and choral backing. Tuomas is seen here (as always) on keyboards. It is not without reason that we call him the Metal Mozart. The keyboard stage dressing is inspired by the monument to Sibelius in Helsinki and is reflected on a smaller scale on the opposite side of the stage by the stand for Troy's whistles (you haven't met him yet). Every song is a different style, but all sound like Nightwish - the variety is outstanding, and live is always best if there is one (nothing yet from their latest album, as it came out last year, but they have created lyric videos for the album so that we can all learn the songs and give ourselves hernias trying to join in at concerts!). Welcome to the rabbit hole, and look back to Gabriel Bardac's introduction (maybe pin it so it doesn't get buried in the mass) for the best guidance there is. One exception, as he isn't one for blowing his own trumpet, but for "Song Of Myself" go to the one on Gabriel's own channel. It is a composite of the version sung live from this festival and the poetic part from the album which is not performed live but displayed on the screen behind them, so is missed by the video. Others only try, Floor can. She's the best singer for the songs of Toumas Holopainen, the keyboarder and modern Mozart. And the rest are perfect musicians too. The only way to create great music and reproduce it live with that sound.
